I like the ceramic coating for car paint instead of pam. Wipe that stuff on all painted surfaces, wait a bit wipe it off, and BAM. Best $20 spent, and it has lasted 2 seasons so far and have 3/4 of a bottle left.

Great tips - thanks. I use cheap furniture polish I get from the dollar store for a buck a can. Works great. I use it to clean the bugs off my motorcycle helmet visor and it leaves a slick surface when it rains so the water beads up. It also cleans my bike of bugs.

I have had my Ariens snowblower for twelve years now, and in that time, I have been spraying my entire machine (excluding the motor) with WD-40 prior to going out and clearing the driveway. The unit itself looks like the day I bought it! This process not only keeps the chute and the tunnel free of ice and snow, but it also prohibits rust. As I said, the machine looks mint for its age. This is a menial task for the longevity of your investment. Just food for thought. Cheers!

Pam spray is good, but WD-40 is much better. Not only will it help prevent clinging & clogging, it help with existing rust as well as preventing future rust. Finally it will melt snow and ice, I actually use it to melt ice from locks all the time. It may cost more than pam but does a lot more for your buck. I get the wide spray can 1 or 2 passes and done! I usually put a quick coat each time for best results. BONUS: Spray your shovels too! Will keep snow from sticking to it.

Moved from natick mass, to Florida, then to Missouri ( Heath reasons, M.S. body couldn't handle the heat anymore). I do miss Florida, the ability to buy a lawnmower 360 days a year. Funny comment about buying a snowblower after watching the video! I was in sheridian park elementary when it snowed in Florida, the school left the school out early that day. Its snowed only a handful of times in the past 52 years though. Twice in broward county, and the other 3 times were in northern Florida.

Good advice !! Most folks don’t know these small tricks !! I’ve been doing the same to my snowblower for years !! I use a commercial silicone but WD40 works great too !! I not only apply the silicone to the chute and auger areas,but the entire painted surfaces on my snowblower,kinda like waxing a vehicle so the machine does not rust !! Oil change is important too and regular intervals are important. I always check the level before every time before starting to make sure the level is not low.also if the machine has a fuel shut off I turn the fuel off and let the engine run out of fuel before putting the snowblower back in my garage.That prevents any fuel from going bad and gumming the carburetor,a big problem if you don’t add Sta Bil in your fuel !!

Since I have a Blower on order with a tractor I've just purchased I've been researching methods of keeping your chute unclogged in wet snow. First rule of Wet Snow Snowblower club is to not go to fast. Anyway the best way to prevent clogging is doing a modification to attach rubber strips to the second stage impellers to extend them all the way to the housing. This makes sure that snow can't build up on the gap between the housing and impeller and also allows more throwing power with extended impellers. There are several youtube videos on this mod. As far as cooking spray vs teflon vs WD-40.......People seem to swear by Silicone spray you can buy at Walmart for like $2. If you spray multiple layers over a couple of days it acts as a barrier between the metal parts of the blower and the snow.
@h20fowler2012

I use a Teflon spray in the chute and auger. It’s a dry spray, and it coats the metal and makes it very slick. I used to work for a chemical company, and we sold the Teflon spray like crazy in the winter. Even the state guys used to spray their plows with it. I ordered some last year on Amazon.

All good suggestions. I fix small equipment and prefer to set that scraper gap a bit wider. Most driveways are not mirror smooth and this gives the scraper just a bit more clearance on those uneven spots. I use a set of wood shims placed under each side of the scraper. Snow has a tendency to adhere to itself anyway and you'll find you have a fairly clean surface even with the wider gap.

And sice I do gravel drives I drilled out the one skid shoe bolt 1/2 inch and doubled nutted a bolt to hold a skinny Harbor Freight 1/2'"rubber wheel to keep scraper bar out of stones. The end of bolt is drilled for clip to hold washer and wheel on and come off in seconds when not needed.

Not sure if you’ve made similar videos but I installed two LED floodlights on the dash of my ariens (similar machine to yours) and it has made a major difference of being able to see clearly in pitch black nighttime snowblowing. Wired mine through a double pole, single throw switch to my heated handgrips and then there is the auxiliary power for the floodlights through the battery of the snowblower. Amazingly helpful when filling gas or unclogging the chute or etc. See and be seen is really prominent after installing those floodlights.

Brent Paris Look on the right side of the unit near the electric starter if you have one, if the unit is setup for lights or heated grips there will be a wire somewhere in that general area, if you have the wire you can add 12 volt items, if there is no wire, then the generator was not built in to the system. My Craftsman has no wire, I’m going to use my dormant motorcycle battery to power two 4 watt flood lights with it, and just plug it in to a charger when finished using it, this will help keep the battery cycling instead of sitting around on a float charger all the time, hopefully I will get dual use out of it...

I think greasing the auger shaft and also removing the shear pins to make sure the auger blade rotates freely should of been part of the video. Also, I use Maxima SC1 as my non stick spray. MX racers are known to use it on the fenders and frame to keep mud from sticking to the bike. On the Ariens, especially auto turn models, it's important to make sure the auger housing and the transmission housing are properly aligned. Ariens has a video on how to do this, and you'd want to do this before adjusting the scraper height.

I just used my snowblower for the first time today on 9” of heavy, wet snow. I got about half of my extremely long, ribbon driveway done and then the chute got clogged and would not expel the snow. Rock hard bricks of snow were coming slowly out of the chute. I called my Dad and he said “spray it with WD40” and I said that I didn’t have any, so he said “ use cooking spray”, which I did have but had to b to work soon so I shoveled the rest of the snow and now my whole body hurts 😿. It's funny sometimes that happens. Last year was very light for snow. 3 years earlier it was the worst in 20 years. Always a gamble.

Add a video about impeller sweep extentions. Absolutely the best thing I have ever done to my blower, cost me about $15 and 45 minutes of time. Works great when the heavy, water laden snow shows up. And I switched to skids with wheels in them, day and night difference. They cost more but with minimal maintenance last for a long, long time.

Take two pieces of wood, like cedar shingles. Measure them at the same thickness and Mark a long across them. Put those under your blower intake lower lip at the marked line and then loosen and adjust your skid shoes. Using two balance points means that both skid shoes get adjusted exactly the same way. Also, you can weld added metal onto the worn skid shoes and ground a bevel on the leading edge so they don't catch on any ground surfaces. I've been using both techniques for decades and saved a bunch of money on skid shoes

Great video I didn't know about that but now I do thanks to you. Now all I got to do is get the damn thing running. It starts but every time I put the cover back on that covers up the carburetor with the wires that are hanging underneath the cover it don't want to start.

Great tips! Add more weight as well if your snowblower is too light. I have a kind of a steep driveway and not that big snowblower. I experianced that the knife didn’t cut the compact snow if a car drive over the snow, and it had poor grip as well. I used my old diver belt with 2x5kg lead wights and fastens it around the 2,nd stage. It transformed the way it cut and provided more grip as well. You might not need a big snowblower, you might just need more weight on it.

How you store your machine in the off season is extremely important. I took out my Ariens two days before we got a snow storm and it wouldn't run. This was in spite of the fact that I ran it completely dry of gas last year and removed all of the gas from the float bowl via the 10mm drain plug. The residual ethanol was enough to block the carburetor jets. I had to remove the carb and clean out the jets with a welders tip cleaning tool. This year I am going to run it dry, then run it dry again on Tru Fuel, with Stabil.

Try adding a snowblower impeller kit you add small pieces of rubber to each impeller and your snowblower becomes more efficient. You can make this kit out of scrap rubber just make sure each impeller kits the same amount weight.

I really experimented with the sacrifice plate adjustment from the recommended 1/8" to smaller gaps and finally settled on letting it lightly rest on the surface and tighten them down there. When I left any measurable gap the job it does clearing the snow drops significantly. I suspect my methods does wear it out faster, not that I ever wore one out, but I think after a little initial scraping it ends up ground to just right to really give you a clean path. I also never adjust it unless it has worn enough to start leaving snow behind. Hey on a side note, I have always used WD40 on all of those surfaces you use Pam on, usually hitting it real quick before using each time also. Have you tied WD40 and compared how they work? Do you do it each use or just once a season? Great tip on the tires, mine for some reason always seem to lose air over the summer, every winter I need to top them off.

Instead of using Pam try using an automotive paint sealant like turtle wax seal n shine. They’re meant to bead and sheet water and work great coated all over your snowblower.
@SilverCymbal

That's a good idea it might take alittle longer but I would think that could last a while. The pam is good for a quick fix but I like the sound of your idea too
