Nobody likes a clogged snowblower so I had the idea to Ceramic Coat it just like car detailers do to make it NON-STICK to stop snow and ice build up on my SNOWBLOWER. Did it work? See how I did it and if it worked?

Ceramic coatings are amazing for everything! Turtle wax has a spray coating that is easy to apply and works amazingly. You can get it at walmart or auto parts stores. When I was a kid growing up in rural Indiana I LOVED winter. Not only was it time to get out the snowmobile but I made a ton of cash. My dad bought a Wheel Horse tractor with the front PTO and 30" snowblower attachment. We put tire chains on all four wheels along with the heaviest wheel weights they made. I would just start on one end of town and clear every driveway I could get. $5 minimum, $10 for the really big ones, plus their sidewalks and porch. But I would have to clear jams a lot. I wish we had this stuff to coat the snow contact parts. That is brilliant

I live in southern Maine and we get a fair amount of snow and lots of times it’s wet and sticky and it always manages to clog up the machine - The gap between the impeller itself and the housing is a major issue that is better or worse depending on the manufacturer - I often times use spray car wax or paste wax and rub everything down just like you did with the ceramic coating and have pretty good results - The best improvement has come from installing an impeller kit which you can Google and learn about - A little involved and not readily done by the average person but it is doable - I have a medium size craftsman snowblower and with the impeller kit I have not had the chute clog once in three seasons - and the snow - depending on the wind and the consistency - is thrown anywhere from 25 to 50 feet which is a huge improvement from prior to the impeller kit installation- For what it’s worth Thanks for posting

Great idea. One of the mail reasons you get a clog is that the impeller that shoots the snow out has a gap between it and the housing. So since snow sticks well to snow (the reason there’s lots of siping on snow tires), any snow that does cling to the housing wants to catch more snow. I did the expeller flap modification a couple years ago. Basically it’s like putting mud flaps on your impeller blades so it sweeps the housing as it goes. Not only have I not gotten a clog, even in heavy slush where it pours out the chute like mustard, I also shoot snow noticeably further. It can practically pump water now. It’s fantastic. You should give it a try. I can find links to the videos I’ve watched if you want.

@@BenNawrath The reason the snow clogs is because it STICKS to the paint. Not because of any gaps. If you wax... you will never have another block or clog. Just try doing to exit hole area and you will see a HUGE difference. No need for any rubber pieces on the impeller fan.
@BenNawrath
@BenNawrath 2 жыл бұрын
@@kielbasaglen6843 I’ve done silicone lube and stuff too. And I agree, that will definitely help. But filling that gap definitely makes the impeller more efficient. I can shoot slush further than I could shoot snow before.
@williams6550
@williams6550 3 жыл бұрын
I'd have never thought of doing this. I will say another good modification for those willing to go a little further would be to add some thick yet flexible rubber to the three impellers to close the gap between them and the housing. Truck mud flaps work well for this. It's just a pain to drill the holes in the impeller and get things lined up. That thing will throw snow a mile away though, and definitely not clog up in that area. Slush stands no chance.

Great video. I live in Vermont and luckily haven't had to use my snowblower this year. I bought it at the end of the season but never used it. I put some rubber pieces on my impeller during the summer and haven't needed to use it yet. It's a bitter sweet I suppose. I put the rubber on my impeller because I saw it on KZbin. It's supposed to throw the snow further and being that the rubber is closer to the housing it means less build-up if snow and more importantly no ice when it's been sitting. I've heard that it will throw your snow 30%-40% further. It cost me around $10-$15 dollars for everything. I used two bolts with washers and nuts to hold it onto the impeller. The rubber I used was a snowblower paddle from one of those old electric toro snow sweepers. I cut it into approximately two inch pieces and drilled holes into each piece along with drilling holes into the impeller. I think I had 3 or 4 pieces for my machine. I ran it for a while to let the rubber wear down a little while it was warm so that it didn't break if it was to cold. Fingers crossed that it works out well for me. Maybe you can do a video on how this would be done and the results afterwards? Just a suggestion. Thanks for your time and videos. I enjoy them immensely.

You have snow on the gearbox because it's the only part with cast aluminum surface finish, AND non moving part, AND central point where both augers converge snow,and not because you didn't coat it. You pack snow because the transition between the chute and the volute is very bad. Grind the square transition where it rotates,you will get better flow. You can also direct exhaust fumes in the back of the auger,so it will constantly be hot,will melt snow ,wich will create a thin coat of liquid water,and allow snnow to slide on.

I started using it on my cross country skis and I can't believe how well it works, on the top and the bottom. My buddy sprayed some on the bottom of his granddaughter's snow disk and she was the fastest one down the mountain. I'm going to try it on my downhill skis.

Ive been spraying a water repellent lime camp dry o my machines for years and it really does improve the performance and non stick advantages of the snow to the machine. Really works well on all of your snow removal equipment like roof rakes and snow shovel type tools.

The impeller modification is the way to go. It throws the snow twice as far as they normally do. My snowblower has not clogged in 2 winters now. We are in a warm area so the snow is always heavy and wet.

Great video. Now that you have a ceramic coating on it, you should consider fortifying it with a hybrid ceramic spray on wax to boost hydrophobicity and durability. Just spray it on, let it dry and test it out the next time it snows.

If you don't care about how it looks and have access to a small paint gun, consider using one for application (the cheap small harbor freight one works great) spray it in fine mist at 20 psi. and allow {most coatings} to dry for one hour and do a second coat or as many as you want with an hour in-between if you have the time. you'll get it in to all the small areas you wouldn't otherwise get by hand. personally, I would do the outside by hand and the inside with a paint gun. Great video. I did this to my lawnmower a few years back when I bought it new and it still looks new, especially underside of the deck ;)
@SilverCymbal
@SilverCymbal 3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate it. I dont think it will work though. This stuff is almost like acetone and evaporates so fast I think the fine mist would be gone before it got on the paint. Its a good idea but probably not good to breathe either. Just be careful.

I can see this working. I liked your Pam trick but switched over to WD40 on my blower (less issues with the wife yelling at me). I use the big blast cans on my boat engine and figured it would work for the blower. Haven't seen a clog yet, and no build up.

After watching your vid on ceramic coating your lawnmower I decided it might well work on my Honda snowblower. We recently had close to a foot before it turned to rain. Thanks!
