I love Home Free's version of this beautiful song. They really brought out the emotion of it. Tim's lead is amazing with his deep bass. Also love Rob & Chance's solos plus the great harmonies. And Adam is tasteful in making the simple sound of pounding his chest & thigh. I believe we can change our course in life. We don't have to make the same mistakes as our parents. We can choose to rise above it.

I love the emotion the guys put into the lyrics in their version, I feel the John Mayers version is to upbeat,even though he wrote it , I feel he did the lyrics an injustice by not making them soulful. Home Free got that soulful almost painful emotion out of the lyrics.

I love the simplistic production of this song , but yet it's complex in its meaning. I feel everyone has a different take on the words and seems to relate in different ways. Homefree makes it hauntingly beautiful with their harmonies. Thanks for your reaction. Always like your view of a song.✌

I love this song. I grew up in a dysfunctional family and I cry every time I listen to this song. It may not be in your genes but if you’ve been told all of your life that you’re worthless and will never be good enough it’s very hard to get over it. Prayers for everyone who has gone through it.

Lyrics are “I can feel the love I want, I can feel the love I need. But it’s never gonna come the way I am. Could I change it if I wanted? Can I rise above the flood? Will it wash out in the water, or is it always in the blood?” A “can I break a bad pattern” plea which is hopefully yes - with help. I love this one. It’s very emotional for me. I definitely feel like it was meant for me! My sister and I had an extremely tough upbringing. We determined early on as teenagers that we would not let anything negative that we had gone through take us down the wrong path, With dogged determination and hard work we were successful and also by God's grace we both are examples of it doesn't have to be in the blood! Over the years nearly every guy I've watched react to this incredible song says the same thing. I've seen some cry, get emotional, but almost all of them talk about how they feel during this song. I get it. My son was afraid to get married because he was afraid he would follow in his father and his grandfather's steps and cheat on his wife. I told him that was a bad choice they made, he had not inherited that. He married and has had a very stable and happy life for near 20 years now. I am proud of him for that. anyway, these are very powerful words and understand why it hits you! Take care.

Science are actually showing quite clearly that we are not doomed to be anything we don't want to be. Genes are constantly changing through our experiences. Our immediate reaction might be one thing, but we always have a choice to stay in that or move our focus and our feelings somewhere else, including everything we believe we believe. We go through quite a substantial programming from the moment we're born and we are programming it ourselves. Imagine your whole foundation of who you believe you are being programmed the kid you, before your brain is even close to fully developed. That's every single human being. And all of us has done most part of the programming from a place of fear.. As we grow older we just as to what's already programmed without removing the old. To reprogram ourselves we want to open our minds to possibilities beyond our current understanding, again and again and again, and move our awareness from our heads to our hearts. Again, science is showing us this today. I know from personal experience how hard it can be, but also how absolutely rewarding it is. I used to struggle in basically all areas of life, today all areas are beyond my wildest dreams and it keeps evolving, showing me more dreams to explore and enjoy. Dreams are there for a reason, we feel bad when we don't pursue them for a reason. So to answer the question in the song, is it always in our blood? I hear, “I can feel the love I want, I can feel the love I need but it will never come the way I am.” I took that to mean he feels the pain of wanting love but is not capable of receiving love when he’s so doubtful of his worth. It’s a very painful place to get stuck, so don’t! Sincerely be looking for Truth and you find it. And yes, I have had a few songs sound like they were meant for me. Roberta Flack sang a song about that very feeling, “Killing Me Softly!” You should react to it now!

And every daughter feels like she is doomed to become her mother. Yeah, this song is very deep. Although I had very wonderful parents and a very "normal" and happy upbringing, I don't think any child can help but look at their parents at some point and determine not to be a certain way they were or repeat things the parents did. It's all part of growing up. The successful ones are able to even identify these feelings, and better yet, actually have the will to not repeat things you didn't like. It's hard. When we become parents ourselves, especially. Somehow, no matter how hard you try, there are always things that come through that maybe you didn't want to. After all, we are human - and we tend to parent our children as we were parented. Hopefully, that will mean we grow loving and responsible young people to toss out into the world to lead the future generations. Oftentimes, that doesn't happen. Yep - very deep indeed.

Yep one of my favorites. It’s a John Mayer cover. Of course, I love HF’s version. It’s so good and yes the lyrics are really good. I have 3 brothers, no sisters. I am surrounded by boys (I have a son too). These boys remind me of them…nice but goofy. Good reaction TS!

Another voice you should NOT miss is that of Russian teen Diana (dee-AH-na) Ankudinova (an-ku-DEE-no-vah). Her voice is totally unique and she has masterful stage presence living the music. The best intro to her is probably her "Wicked Game" cover. Just make sure you are seated first.

I don't like John Mayer's version but he is an awesome song writer. Home Free's version is by far better!
