I like both generic rounds and bars. I don’t collect any eagles or any constitutional actually. I keep mine incase of hyperinflation, and I feel if we’re in that situation no ones going to care what the collector value is when bartering or trading, only the silver content. And it’s uniform so I can easily figure out what the value of everything is.

I'm not sure if this is what normally happens, but silver rounds seem to be cheaper as the silver prices drop. ASE coins seem to stay at higher prices as the prices drop. So stacking rounds seem to be better to buy as the prices drop and coins seem to be good to buy when the silver price goes up, because then the rounds come back up in price back to where the coins are.
@hapnewsom92174 жыл бұрын
Being in Oregon you might not have run into this particular advantage of Silver Eagles over Buff's...when you buy eagles you're buying "money"...and there are no taxes on buying "money" HOWEVER if you buy Buff's which are NOT "money"...you (at least in Washington where I live) have to pay (in my case 10.9%) TAX on the purchase. Personally I don't like the large premium placed on Silver Eagles so most of my purchases at my LCS are of constitutional silver; dimes quarters and halves. Premiums are arbitrary and nowhere is it given that you'll get that premium back...so in my opinion it's just "smoke money"...above spot...I don't mind paying a bit over spot, even for junk silver, that's sort of part of the deal and dealers live off that margin; buy a little under spot, sell a bit over spot. I (and you as well I imagine) want to do the same, pay less and sell for more. When I have "let go" of any of my silver it's more often been in a barter situation than at a coin shop...I try to NEVER sell to a coin shop...nothing against them but they are in business to make money off my trade, I know they'll pay me less and charge me more...and that's sort of a "never win" scenario in my book. Concerning the 1099-B...just never sell more than 950 silver rounds to a coin shop. ALWAYS look for that private deal. Everyone has their own particular way of stacking and collecting, there are as many ways to do it as there are people trying to get it done! I like eagles...but don't want to pay "extra for the privilege"

Ask your LCS if they pay any premium over spot for ASE . Then ask does the premium change if each stack of 20 is mixed years or all they same year or if some are culled/minor damage? This is information is for your plan later in life to sell (or sooner if needed) . Do not use your emergency fund for stacking. Having a solid E fund will ensure that you will not be force to sell before you want to or reduce the likelihood of that.

I'm not a fan of owning something worth like $25 that declares itself worth $1. If someone inherits it and knows nothing about silver, they might assume they were once worth only a dollar and gladly sell them for anything over that. With the buffalo they'd have to do some research or take it to a coin shop and there's a bit less chance of the ignorant getting taken advantage of. That said, if someone knew nothing about metals or coins, they probably wouldn't expect either to actually sell for $25.
