I just retired at 60 and only now am I getting into precious metals. And financially, my wife and I are the foundation and anchor for our 2 daughters (30 & 27) so my metals are an anchor for our family and is part of our generational wealth transfer plan. My wife and kids are being educated on metals and their value to a portfolio. Locally, I've been buying from an elderly man at coin shows because his kids don't understand or have any desire to have metals so he's selling his stack, which is a good idea for him. Again, another great video!
@slapdat.byteme15 күн бұрын
If you have a TRADITIONAL IRA and you’re ok moving some/all of it into gold and silver, rolling those it into a precious metals IRA can be a good way to boost your stack with an asset you already own. My wife & I each did this with a couple small IRAs we had. Then, since we’re both over 62, we started taking distributions of the metals. If you ever consider it, use a reputable metals dealer and metals custodian. Some bad actors out there (Regal Assets, Birch Gold). But there are several good ones… SD Bullion now has IRA custodian service, so they’re a 1-stop shop. That’s where we went. And no, this is not a sales pitch! Good luck with your stacking.

I keep written instructions with my PMs that contain preferred dealers and coin shops. There's also a price list with how much I paid for each coin or tube, the date purchased, etc. I guess I should add prices at 6-month intervals, too, and keep it updated. My son-in-law is getting into PMs more so than my daughter. Either way, the PMs are in good hands. I've focused on 90% silver and pre-'33 gold, but I think I'm going to check out bars and rounds. Thanks for the information, guys.

I have to disagree with Harry about not buying fractional gold and saving up until you can buy an ounce. The reason I buy fractional is because I'm not good at saving money but I am good at saving my fractional gold. Plus I shopped hard and found some fractional 1/10 oz gold coins at about 5% over spot when I used my cash back credit card to purchase them.
@ZeroEngaged10 күн бұрын
I agree. I prefer making steady purchases each month with whatever spare cash I have left over. Sometimes its enough for a 1/4oz, but sometimes I can only afford the 1/10. Plus I just recently started stacking the 20 Franc Roosters, which offers even more variety for fractional with very low premiums. For me 2700 is a lot to part with all at one time, its psychologically a lot easier to part with 300 to 700 for some fractional.

Concur completely on educating family on your "stack". One suggestion; make a binder listing all you have, your DCA and a trusted LCS. Also, what is and where to find spot price information, tax information and inheritance information. In essence, get as much information in writing so that educated decisions can be made when the time comes..

65 years ago the now deceased actor, Bob Denver, used to play a character named "Maynard the beatnik" on a TV show called "Dobie Gillis". Sometimes Maynard would say to Dwayne Hickman (Dobie Gillis) or others on the show that they were "real human beings". This was a heartfelt thought as Maynard expressed it rarely but always out of kindness. To me, watching these videos makes me think Maynardspeak about Harry the same way. You're a real human being Harry. We viewers of this channel love you for it.

Spot on Harry. As one gets older that silver starts to get really HEAVY. I had a monster box of Silver Maple leafs and I just could not lift it with my arthritic hands. Same with logging around my Mom's old sterling silverware. I've moved that silver for over a decade from one residence to another! I finally said to myself, "Self, sell that silver! It's at a good "little" high". So I indulged myself. I've always been something of a "numismatist" (i.e. collector), and I'd wanted some American gold coins for some time. The proceeds of the sale of the silver I used in a "barter" with my precious metals retailer. I bought a random set of pre-33 coins, the Indians and another St. Gaudens $20 piece. Plus one Britannia 1 oz. I couldn't be happier. Will never miss that silver and really like my historic American gold coins. 😊 Of course, that said, I still have silver bullion and 90% U.S. coins.

I’ve educated the family on what I have, where the value is as of 2024 and where to look for value in later years.
