My Favourite Wife with Irene Dunn and Cary Grant was also released in 1940 and it's the same story line except Irene Dunn was the one who was lost at sea. The film is one of the many variations that there will be under the name of "My Favorite Wife", "Move Over Darling", and in France "Aux Deux Colombes" or "La Cuisine au Beurre". Once it's the woman we thought dead who comes back, the other time it's the husband ... It's always a funny, very funny situation, thanks above all to old Harry Davenport. When we adore Jane Arthur, and her little girlish voice, as I do, we complain her for having to choose between Melvyn Leroy and Fred McMurray. Talk about a duo of seducers ! But it's a matter of taste, entirely personnal, of course. Anyway, thanks for sharing this film in a really good copy. It was a great time,.
@tallpaul5214 жыл бұрын
Great film..thanks. This came out the same year as "My Favorite Wife" with Cary Grant and Irene Dunne...where Dunne, the 1st wife was lost at sea, presumed dead, and then comes back to find her husband re-married. That film premise was remade in the 60's as "Move Over Darling" with Doris Day and James Garner. "Something's Got To Give"..same premise was in pre-production, with Marilyn Monroe and Dean Martin in the 1950's, when Monroe was fired, just before she died.

Fred MacMurray looks and behaves so much ahead of his time. His looks and mannerism are that of a person from the early 1960s rather than the early 1940s. If I was Vicky (Jean) I would have no difficulty choosing my preferred husband; and the logic would be like: "See, my second marriage was kind of based upon the presumed demise of Bill, but the presumption was false, so this also makes my second marriage a false step/a mistake." Katherine Hogan Thank you for the interesting and surprising information about the movie in which Murray played a bad guy, and even died! At the time, little did anyone know the importance of that role. It would be one of the (I think) few movies that portrayed him in what would turn out to be an untypecast role. Have you seen him in, "Double Indemnity," with Barbara Stanwick? He was absolutely fantastic! It, too, showed his character as a man who was passionate and caring in some parts and a ruthless killer in the others. He began as a run-of-the-mill life insurance salesman, and shockinbly, changed into a man who was anything but, run-of-the-mill. I don't want to tell you anything more about the movie, in case you haven't seen it. If not, I highly recommend seeing it. I'm sure you'd find it engrossing. It might be on KZbin. It's a true classic, so maybe it will be easy to find somewhere. At any rate, Fred McMurray filled my childhood, (I was born in 1957), with many humorous and memorable movies, and television shows. He was unique, talented, and amazing! (Pretty good-looking, too! 😉). I will see if "Pushover" is on KZbin. I don't remember having seen it. Take care. 😀

This type of story has been told in many ways & various combinations, two husbands, two wives every decade or so. Somehow someone always ends up on a deserted island.

Melvin Douglas was more of a dramatic actor this was a few times he did comedy. Fred McMurray can do both very well. In most of his movies he did comedy mainly. They both had long careers. Melvin Douglas was the quintessential actor winning the triple crown of acting. Winning the academy award and nominated several times for the academy award. He did many Broadway plays and television with accolades.

@@flyteoffancy yeah he was fantastic in that great movie. In my opinion he was great doing comedies too. He did another really good with Rosalind Russell (this thing called love)

I love it! In the end SHE got what she wanted... attention from both husbands, and she herself didn't have to make the decision so no hard feelings.

Three married couples under one roof. Each behaving like children. Love is the common factor, and there's no room for a dividend. This is so-o-o good! A wholesome and proper classic...love it! 🎥💋

That must be a different movie. Here there were not 3 married couples.
