Regarding 6:42, thank you for your advice of maintaining the vertical sawing motion while turning the object itself along a curve. This is also the same method for using a mechanical band saw or a sewing machine.

I am wondering if you can use a handsaw to make jump rings. Are there different tools to help you hold your metal while you cut it? Different ones for cutting jump rings, a flat sheet of metal etc?
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing 4 жыл бұрын
Yes you can! I used to cut my jump rings with the hand saw like this, before I got the jump ring maker. It's actually pretty easy, I will make a video about it soon! :) But basically what you need is a coil, to wrap your wire aroung it, and then you just have to figure out the best way to hold it (there are different ways) and cut each jump ring :) Google how to make jump rings, and I'm sure plenty tips will come up! Good luck ❤️

when you reach a corner, you can turn the frame but there's a little trick to make it work. pull a bit back on the frame so the rounded back of the sawblade sits against the edge of the cut on the outer side of the corner and only the theet in the inner side of the corner should touch the metal. imagine the blade like a reversed wedge, from teeth to the back it's .5mm, the teeth is .25mm wide but the back is only like .1mm wide so it is totally possible to turn and pull the back of the blade against the edge of your cut. this way you get the same effect like when you are turning the sheet, no broken blades. it's up to personal preference but I feel like turning the frame gives me much more control because I only have to control one movement at a time and also I don't have to compromise on how strong I hold the workpiece against the peg.

@@TheArtOfMetalsmithing like a 2/0 or much bigger like a 2? I'm making an order tomorrow! We have not been able to order anything non essential for the past 5 weeks so I'm super excited that they are allowing the jewellery tool store to send orders, because most online shops can't operate here yet. I'm not sure what it's like in the UK but it has been so strict here. I hope you are healthy and safe!

Thank u I just subscribed....and shared...what is the name of the piece of wood u have in front of u? Most use it when sawing...and I know there is a name for it...thank u...u can tell I’m a novice.

Aww, thank you! That means a lot 🤗 I believe that piece of wood is called bench peg (attached with the anvil) ⭐ There are different types, and some modern versions are made with materials other than wood. I really liked that peg (shown in this video) but in my newest videos you can see a new version, which I'd much rather recommend! The price difference wasn't big, so it's worth to pay just a bit more and have a better, more useful peg

Wspaniale!

KZbin, parę książek i śledzenie instagram zupełnie Ci wystarczą. Powodzenia! trzymam kciuki ❤️
