i was watching a live performance of lazy eye, and when the song escalates and he starts screaming, i couldn't help but notice the resemblance to so many kurt cobain performances. i agree. although it won't hold the same significance culturally, carnavas is almost as good an album.

in reality they are a great mix of smashing pumpkins, the pixies, and i see a lot of sonic youth resemblance but all in all they are just the amazing silversun pickups

Thank you for the shoe gazer comment. They seem to be pschedelic and understated. I've heard them descibed as a cross between Smashing Pumpkins (big ego/worst vocals ever) and My Bloody Valentine. Sounds more like MBV and Ride or Lush to me.

yep its corgan and I don't care if they suck live, I really don't, you are not getting my point, smashing pumpkins were and still they are huge, and I can say they represent the youth of the 90's in a huge percentage, but i love silversun pickups, i just saw them live last saturday, great show, cheers!!!

For me it's the other way around. His voice doesn't remind me of Corgan, but a lot of their songs share similar stylistic and compositional aspects. You would know that if you knew anything about the Pumpkins aside from their song "Bullet With Butterfly Wings." Listen to Mayonnaise or Disarm.

That thunderbird bass is awesome, but I can't find that finish anywhere! It's listed as vintage sunburst, but that always ends up being a much darker finish. Does anyone know where I can find one like Nikki's?

anyone that compares this band to pumpkins/nirvana have a decent ear for music. BUT u gotta give these guys a chance, listen to new(ish) album "swoon". there is major talent here, one of the VERY VERY few bands that have tickled my fancy for almost a decade.

This song sounds a lot better recorded live than the studio version. I love Silversun Pickups but I dont always enjoy the way they mix their songs in the studio. I feel some of their songs would be a lot better if the guitar was a lot more prominent and raw, and some of the distorted electronica, especially the high pitched stuff was faded a little bit more into the backround. Anyway love the new EP Seasick and cant wait for their third album.

@jonesattack Some of the riffs are very similar too. SP music varies quite a bit, but some of the shoegaze tracks like Chreub Rock and Rhinoceros are very similar to most of the SSPU songs. I love both bands, but for me SSPU has a more concise tight sound, where the SP branch out quite a bit more.
