Correction Ethys. Yoshi P did clarify (in very subtle words) that some of the scenes that occur with the scions in Shadowbringers were canonical moments that occurred prior to our arrival on the first, with the rest being realitively metaphorical.

Great stuff! I'm glad to have finally found a channel that gets into the lore of this game! I was really missing this when I 1st started. I like to delve into the lore of a games like this as much as possible before starting. Minor suggestion: Have the question displayed on the screen as you read them, and perhaps afterwards. Not a criticism; I know even editing that little bit into the video can be a bit of extra & potentially unwanted work. It's just a little thing I've come to appreciate in other Q&A style videos that I didn't think I would miss till I didn't have it there. Also, question timestamps! Great for revisiting videos in search of specific points. Either way, I hope you keep doing this sort of thing!

Thank you for making this series & sharing your understanding & knowledge. It is very interesting & I will be watching future episodes. I wonder if you'd be interested in making a podcast (even locking it behind patreon) where you do a summary of each major patch/expansion and/or do deep dives into different NPCs or other aspects of the game. It would be a delight to be able listen to something like that on my commute. Cheers!

I think Silvertear was actually holding the Primals inside it, like Dalamud was holding Bahamut, but far more efficient and powerful. This meant that BEFORE the Battle of Silvertear Skies, beast tribes couldn't summon their primals, as they were ALREADY summoned in Silvertear. I think the explosion of Aether from there that you see in Mor Dhona is from the primals that were held there being destroyed, much like Bahamut in Flames of Truth, we see that Primals are actually made of crystallized Aether. That the Crystal Tower is so close to Silvertear and so closely tied to Dalamud isn't a coincidence. I think the Allagans got the idea of capturing primals FROM Silvertear. That Dalamud and every other Primal Prison they made was an imperfect attempt to replicate that perfect prison in Silvertear. That said, I'd love to see more of the story surrounding that. I'd love a Wings of the Goddess style time-travel plot line in a future expansion that takes us back to ancient Eorzea and unravels some of the mysteries of Silvertear, and lets us re-visit a pre-Dalamud Eorzea (expecially a green Coerthas). Also, as to whether the 1.0 intro cutscene is allegorical or not, I believe it is right up until the Derplander touches the leveplate. From that point on, you're seeing an ECHO vision.
@EthysAsher3 жыл бұрын
interesting theory! Some things to consider though: Primals were being summoned in Eorzea before the Battle of Silvertear Skies, just very rarely and only once in recent memory. The Garleans encountered a primal when they made their first incursions into Aldenard which halted their advance, but we don't yet know who this primal was or who summoned it. Secondly, we shouldn't assume that any of the modern Eorzean primals predate Allag. We describe them as "primals" as opposed to "elder primals" that were around during/before Allag for the reason that at least the Sharlayans and Garleans understand them to be much more recently conceived. Yes, we have the implication that Ifrit is likely based on or inspired by legends or derivatives of the Amaurotine fire sprite Ifrita, but on the other hand you have Garuda who was inspired by an Allagan general (and the Ixali didn't even exist before Allag), not to mention Shiva whose inspiration wasn't even born until several millenia after Allag fell... these at least couldn't possibly have been trapped in Silvertear since before Allag. We also have an account of the scientific progression that lead to the Allagans' trapping primals: the neurolinks. They steadily developed this technology to enslave beasts, then eventually dragons and finally primals. Given that we see Omega using a similar kind of technology to ensnare Shinryu, it is likely that Allag developed this tech from reverse engineering Omega (the same method by which we know they achieved most of their scientific advancements). You're right that it's certainly not a coincidence that the Crystal Tower was built at Silvertear; it is after all the aetherial heart of the planet and the subsequently the best possible place to build a giant aetherial power station. All the same, there definitely is/was something more and something nefarious under there and I can tell you're as excited as I am to find out, so thanks for sharing your thoughts ;)
@Edge21773 жыл бұрын
Let us first assume that each element, and there are 6 has a primal expression. Let us next state that there is an umbral, as well as an astral version of primal. What was locked in silvertear, was the mental expression of each elemental that kept people from aspecting these creations. Because summoning a primal is inherently creation magic. Quetzalcoatl was an expression of air magic clearly, before Garuda existed. Where Garuda was shaped from the Ixal's memory. This is especially pertinent as our WoL memories of primals becomes manifest in Eden, with slight changes and merges based on our memory of other 'elemental beings'. But I do think that if we want to consider what primals we have encountered thus far and on the astral or umbral nature of the entity. What's interesting is that Lunar Bahamut, an expression of a primal, did not corrupt people with it's breath attack.

The way its presented, it feels like the sundering only affected Hydaelyn to me. I dunno if that would mean the reflections were flung to the far corners of space, or if they exist in an extradimensional space connected to the source, but the ascians (as far as we know) only ever dealt with Hydaelyn and her reflections and only seemed to need to cause calamities on one planet to rejoin it to the source.

In oldish Dungeon and Dragon lore exist a thing named Crystal Sphere. And every world of existence are in the material world AND inside they own Crystal Sphere. A sphere can be the entire solar system or only part of it or whatever. I some time feel like the worlds (stars) of FFXIV (FF universe) are like the Crystal Shards of the Dungeon and Dragon. So when The sundering happened our crystal sphere got shattered in 14 different world. And not the universe... INCLUDE! The Forgotten Realms setting, the main world is named Toril, and this happened to have a sundering event too! originally the world was named Abeir-Toril something happened and this sundered! All the adventures (the setting) of Forgotten Realms pass in the Toril. But some times between the editions a event like the Calamity happened and parts of Abeir shift to Toril and parts of Toril shift to Abeir. It include happened between the 3 and the 4 edition.

Wait the silver tear lake crash caused a bunch of aesthetically crystals to spawn? Since we know hydaelyn was born of the sacrifices of the ancients, and we know the ancients can conjure/manipulate aetheric crystals. Does that mean stuff like fire crystals/clusters are fragments of the ancients aether?

@13:00 Am I going crazy or wasn't there something from Azys Lla or late 2.X that implied that Miqo'te came from Meracydia and went north over temporary ice age land bridges in to Eorzea? And not that they were ever originally from Eorzea?
@TheLittleMako3 жыл бұрын
I was having the same thought, I was under the impression that the miqo'te timeline goes like: Originally native to meracydia -> migrate north to aldenard -> persecuted by Allag, migrate further north to ilsabard -> return south to aldenard over the ice bridges. However my amateur google-fu seems to indicate that the in-game descriptions that used to spell that out aren't around anymore? EDIT: I just remembered, the description of the wind-up mithra (possibly jokingly) places hydaelyn's mithra as the ancestors of the miqo'te. So maybe that's the solution. Mithra were native to meracidya, and by the time they migrated to eorzea they were known as miqo'te?

No small amount of this video went to the lore of two of the most popular player races - the two popular races which have tails. (I don't count Hrothgar yet as being quite as popular). I have to wonder however, how the lore of those races will be reconciled as being sundered from the Amurotine race, which was quite obviously lacking a lot of the animalistic features seen in many of the playable races.

FF14's cosmology is so incredibly whack. Are the shards like actual planets or it is it just different dimension situation? The Alagans developed spaceships, could they have theoretically traveled to other planets? For all we know there is a Colony ship full of modern day Alagans floating around somewhere.
