Really cool to see her take the stick and have such control over the ol tail! Something I noticed in the video were a few moments of confusion, over what control needed to be "pushed/pulled". When I started teaching, I used those terms for pitch and power near interchangeably, which caused confusion at times haha; that usually led to stress for them on the final moments of the approach. So what I started doing with students was use only one verb per control input. On the approach if a power adjustment was needed, we briefed that only "Add/Reduce" would be used; if it was a pitch adjustment needed, "Raise/Lower" would be used. It helped them know what action was needed without seeking clarification on what control the verb was attached to, which kept their focus on the landing. I know everyone is an expert on the internet haha, but wanted to share in case it was found useful! And those were seriously great landings! Who knows, maybe she'll be wanting her own ship in the future haha;) Fly safe!

Agree completely. I saw her confusion immediately, but she was asking the right questions, which also then added delay to the desired input control of the plane. do as Steve Crowe suggested.

Hey Steve, communicating like that helps tremendously, specially when the language spoken isn't the student's native. To "push" in English sounds exactly like to "pull" in Portuguese, so imagine how confused one can get in that kind of situation. Raise / lower is spot on.

Steven......I think your idea of raise/lower....add/reduce is an excellent idea!! Student pilots want to know what to do and rely on their instructors for immediate, clear instruction. All too often an instructor will say "pitch for airspeed, power for altitude". which is technically correct but this forces the student pilot to stop and think (and hope they make the right choice) when they should be taking immediate action!! Your idea is great as the instructor can tell them exactly what to do and they don't have to really think too much about it, at the same time see the immediate results.

I taught my wife to drive a stick shift. It was interesting and led to some raised voices. You, Jonas, are doing far better in teaching Silvija to fly. You are a brave man and you even filmed it. I really liked this video. You were a very nice instructor. I remember my mean old instructor yelling at me “ You’re either too high, too low, too fast, or too slow. Do something about it now!” I also like the fact that she is learning in a taildragger. Awesome job Silvija!
