The Assyrian language is a Neo-Aramaic Semitic language spoken by Assyrian people (Syriac Christians) who are indigenous to the Middle East. The native homeland of the Assyrian people consists of parts of present-day Iraq, Iran, Syrian and Turkey. Some Assyrians also identify themselves as Aramean or Chaldean, and the language consist of various dialects, using different scripts. The words in this video are written in the Estrangelo script. The Persian language (Farsi) is classified as one of the Western Iranian languages. Persian has had a huge impact on many other languages and cultures, mainly in the Middle East, Central Asia and South Asia and holds official status is Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan.

@@Rastapapulus Outside of Iran, Iranians have often been referred to as "Persians" for thousands of years. That other thing you're referring to is called 'ethnic self-identification', and it is hardly ever used by outsiders in any language or for any nation, e.g. you call Afghans 'Afghans', a term that also strictly speaking applies to only the Pashtuns - but inside Afghanistan, mostly Pashtuns refer to themselves like that, and others use their own ethnic marker. This is beautiful! Assyrians and Persians have a close bond. During the Assyrian genocide, the Persians saved many Assyrians, including my own great grandparents who settled in Iran. We have many Iranian-Assyrians today such as famous footballer, Steven Beitashour, who embodies the beautiful bond between Assyrians and Persians, since he’s half Persian half Assyrian.

That's because it is. In 64 BC, Roman Emperor Pompeii conquered Iraq/Mesopotamia when the Persians controlled the area. He renamed the area Assyria and all the land to the west of the Euphrates river he named Syria. The Romans and Greeks did not have the "sh" sound in their languages

@@littlehans2010 Persians were conquered by Muslims, as were many others, however, the Persians were able to keep their language, culture, and many pre-Islamic traditions. The Persian culture even influenced Islam, much of what we know as "Islamic" art, architecture, and scientific discoveries, etc... were in fact Persian and the works of Persians.

Ram1 za3tr I think your comment just made it seem like you're the one who feels inferior haha, I mean I studied Near Eastern history in college and even Abbasid Caliphs admitted to how much of Islamic art and architecture was in fact Persian. Even the 5 daily prayers is a Zoroastrian concept that predates Islam by centuries. And of course, nobody can forget about the huge number of Persian scientists. And you just pointed out a few things Arabs achieved, so what? haha that doesn't nullify any of what the dude above said, you just said that Arabs built some mosques, which isn't even true. Let's start with Umayyad mosque in Damascus which was built on top of a church that Arabs destroyed. Now here comes the interesting part. The Umayyad mosque was built by Coptic craftsmen as well as Persian, Indian, Greek and Moroccan laborers while Byzantine artisans were employed to create the mosaics, still visible, which depict landscapes and buildings in a characteristic late Roman style. Hence nothing about it was Arab and none of the work was done by Arabs, kinda of like today how Arabs in UAE, Qatar, and Saudi do nothing but rely on foreigners to do everything for them.

In Russia, a lot of Assyrians. There is a village of Urmiya in my region. Only Assyrians live there. There are Assyrians in my city Krasnodar. A woman with my mother's former job and a friend's Assyrian neighbors, on the wall of their house bas-relief of Assyrian flag. Everyone knows the Aramaic language spoken two thousand years ago in the Middle East during the time of Jesus Christ. The Assyrians are not Catholics and not Orthodox in the Krasnodar city as collected(community of different nationalities not only Russian) money and built as a gift to the Assyrian Church. In Georgia, too, there are Assyrians and their churches. A priest from Georgia of Assyrian origin sings very beautifully in Aramaic ♥

OMG!! I LOVE THIS! Thanks for this video. I grew up in Baghdad with many Assyrians and sadly none of those families live in Iraq now. I'm still in touch with some and it breaks my heart looking back at everything that happened since the early 2000s 😢😢 I'm so appreciative of this video and sending it to all my Assyrian friends. can you extend this joke thing please? because i've never heard of this details before. for example as a turkish we turks also do joke on some greek way of using words and things. like let's take the food names on the table. if we say " karnıyarık" we probably think that greeks must pronounce it as " karniyariki ", or we say cacık but greeks say tzatziki (pronouncation is almost the same except the " i " letter at the end ). i mean i've heard at least 30-40 words that all of them almost same but greeks add some " i " ( E in english ) or other stuffs like " is " " os " etc... so if we fake to speak like greek we use these additives at the end of the word and it seem like greek with a bit of accent of course :P What's your way to do ? i really wanna know my yunan friend hehe ( yunan is what we call greeks, this etymological term most possibly comes from" ionians" who lived in anatolia thousand of years ago that we related them to todays greeks ) ionan = yunan

Talia Jan .. I highly urge you not to post random accusations. I am specialized in Iranian history, and I myself am a Persian. You will really be surprised to know that one of the main reasons that ancient Persians attacked the Roman empire is because they, being Zoroastrians back then, portrayed Christianity as a creed of filth due to its concept of trinity, while the Persians were core monotheistic people. Plus, the Persians were not nice to either the Armenians nor the Georgians, both nations were Christians and were enslaved and massacred by the Persians before and after Islam. The Georgians and Armenians never admired the Persians and always fought them. Moreover, Islam was not spread by sword in Iran, nor they accepted it because of fear, this is utter gibberish, Arabs never bothered to convert Persians to begin with, they just wanted sovereignty. Overall Persians were then peasants and followed the caste system of the Sassanians who gave power to the landlords, thus when the Sassanians collapsed, the landlords wanted to maintain their power, thus they decided to convert to Islam to protect their positions, and then the rest of the Persian crowd started to convert. As a matter of fact, the vast majority of Muslim scholars, and the founders of the 3 major Islamic schools that 90% of world Muslim popular adhere to, were all Persians! Given this fact, it is impossible that our ancestors were forced to convert. It is very difficult to go through details on this youtube commentary, and it is very provoking to post random accusations without even knowing history. Well done for this video. As an Assyrian (whose mother was born in Iran), I'm proud to see this relationship between these 2 great cultures who share many similarities. Thank you for sharing! Also worth nothing that Assyrian within itself has many accents & dialects depending on geographic influences. Assyrians from Syria for example use many different words than Assyrians from Iran or Lebanon. It's the wonder of language which connects us regardless of where we are from!

Hey Bahador! So today i was covering a shift in the pharmacy (I’m a pharmacist) and two people enter the store. They start speaking to each other using Farsi. Partly thanks to your videos, it took me ~ 5 seconds to guess the language. So i asked them “Is that Farsi you guys were speaking?” and they were shocked how i knew so fast. So i explained to them that i’ve been training my ear to Farsi cs i’m a loyal subscriber to your channel Bahador. As a matter of fact, i showed them your channel and they were so proud of you. We ended up sharing similarities in words (i relied heavily on your video about similarities between Arabic and Farsi😋). Anyhow, sorry for the long comment. This was such a cool and insightful video. I grew up with a friend that has an Assyrian Father and Iranian Mother. I’ve always looked at Persians as much more than neighbors because of the history between our people goes back thousands of years, I just never realized how many words of ours are so similar. I always knew that my name means baptized and it’s the same in Hebrew and Arabic but I never knew it means “Hope” as well. Also the wisemen in the story of the birth of Christ were Magi from the Medes who basically the teachers of any would be king from any part of Asia at one point in time. Anyhow thank you all for taking time out of your schedules to make this happen. Merci 😊

I have also noticed; “Jada” in Arabic "جادّة" means Avenue, road, street or path. It also has a figurative meaning. example: Deviated from the right path, in Arabic “خرجت عن جادّة الصواب”

Ohhh.. Assyrian❤.. How influential it was❤. There are tons of Assyrian words in our slang(Lattakia,Syria)..even more than turkish(400 years occupation) & french combined.!!! My surname is Assyrian. It’s because Latakians were Assyrians before arabization. Aside from modern genetics indicating this, being so close to Antioch (a very important city in Assyrian history) would further lend to this + your Arabic dialect retains a lot more Assyrian (unlike Iraqi Arabs who speak like Gulf Arabs). Hopefully Alawis, Syrian Christians and such become more aware as time goes on. Pśeyna

That's kool you did this video on both Assyrians and Persians. I am half Native Mexican-American Indian and half Sephardic Jewish-Moorish. My Great Grandfather was a Sephardic Jew that studied ancient languages and did Bible translations. His Teacher who taught him the different dialects of Aramaic was an Assyrian named George M. Lamsa. George M. Lamsa is famous for writing the Lamsa Bible from the Ancient Middle Eastern Manuscripts (Peshita). My Great Grandfather did his version of translation from the Peshita to Spanish.

I am assyrian from Turkey (suryoyo) and it was very surprising for me that I barely understood anything that the assyrian girl was saying. It's crazy how much the eastern dialect and western dialect have changed from each other.

All Assyrian dialects vary in vocabulary. Assyrian and Persian were very influential on each other in ancient times due to Imperial Aramaic being official in Achaemenid Persia which was a carryover from Assyria-Babylonia. Western has a bit more Anatolian Turkish & Greek, Urmian has a bit more Azeri Turkish & Russian, Ninvin has more Arabic, etc. etc. Plus, much words are shared habuśo/xabuśa (Akkadian), xyara/hyoro (Old Persian), pata/fotho (Classical Assyrian), etc.

The suryoyo dialect turns the "a" in words to "o" in many cases. Also, it has some Arabic and morebold Aramaic words in it I think.
