In this language challenge, we have three Persian (Farsi) speakers competing against three Azerbaijani (Azeri) speakers with a list of words and sentences. I would like to thank Aziz for helping us organize this video. Here is the link to his channel: / @azizoid

The Persian language (Farsi) is also an ancient language which has had a huge amount of impact on other languages and cultures, mainly the Middle East, as well as Central and South Asia. Classified as one of the Western Iranian languages, Persian holds official status is Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. Persian has strongly influenced many different languages, including numerous Turkic languages, as well as well as Armenian, Georgian, and many languages in the Indian subcontinent. Persian has a long history of literature and it was notable for being the first language in the Muslim world to break through Arabic's monopoly on writing. The Persian language has also influenced the Arabic language, although the impact of Arabic on Persian has been higher. But the influence of Persian in the Muslim world has been strong since the early days of Islam. It was even established as a court tradition instead of Arabic under many ruling Muslim dynasties.
Azerbaijani (Azeri), which is also referred to as Azeri Turkish, is a member of the Oghuz branch of the Turkic languages. The majority of Azeri speakers live in Northwestern Iran, followed by the Republic of Azerbaijan, where it has official status, along with the federal subject of Dagestan in Russia. The current Republic of Azerbaijan has historically been a part of different Iranian and Persian empires until as recent as the 19th century. Hence, despite being part of two different language families, Persian and Azeri share many common words, just as Iranians and Azerbaijanis share very deep and strong historical, cultural, and religious ties.

Aside from its educational and entertainment aspect, the main intention behind all of our videos is to bring people closer together through linguistic commonalities and cultural similarities. So please keep that in mind before commenting. Thank you! This is Shahrzad’s first performance since giving birth to our daughter, so officially her first video as a mother. Enjoy this week’s episode and contact us if you have any suggestions or feedback. It’s becoming a bit tough to respond to all comments on KZbin, so please contact us on Instagram, especially since KZbin comments can easily go unnoticed: Shahrzad (@shahrzad.pe): instagram.com/shahrzad.pe Bahador (@BahadorAlast): instagram.com/BahadorAlast

+M It's really sad to see turks fed with this kind of stupid propaganda. It's strange I all the time see TV debates, music programs (Kurd Idol for example) etc where kurds with all types of kurdish dialects speak with each other, in their own dialect, with no problem. I understand and communicate with Kurmanji speakers with no problem, even though my dialect (southern kurdish) is even farther from Kurmanji than even Sorani is.

There are some different ideas on what does Türk mean. 1- Derived from "Türe" which means "appear, derived". 2- Derived from "Türük" modern day Turkish "Tüzük" which means "Law". 3- Derived from "Erk" which means "Power". 4- Derived from "Tür" which means "Race,Class or Specie". We do not have to accept propagandas as solid truth. History could be lived different then Shahmama posted to us. Maybe there were 3 children of Yafes and one of them was "Turk-Terk" which Arabic literature mentioned uh? Rub your brain cells; try not to humiliate you and your nation.

thelastmark 2 Yeah, I’m only 25% Azeri-Iranian. We don’t have any family in Azerbaijan as far as I’m aware. Just Azeri-Iranians. From my understanding Azeri-Iranians are closer genetically to Iranians than they are to Azeris. We speak Turkish, but ethnically we’re more Iranian (correct me if I’m wrong?)

@Atilla GokTurk yok baba I was waiting for your permission I guess you are from Azerbaijan republic Because idiots like you can not be found in Iran. Besides Azeris are iranian also persians are iranian and they like each other. You and your country were also iranian and those lands of azerbaijan republic belongs to us which was sold to russia, so your country and your nationality both are FAKE. 25 million iranian Azaris are the major community of Azeris which determine Azeris are iranian, you are just 5 million idiots which were sold to russia in Qajars era You Are our leftovers without History and also without real identity. Persians are parents of Iran and Iranian Azeris are it's savior and you are just useless uneducated persons who are trying to make a fake identity and history for themselves, but in real you are nothing but a piece of shit which was sold to Russia because of being useless. So as a result you are not in a right position to determine the relationship between persians and azeris because you are from a country with 20 years history without history and identity. Persians and Azeris are Iranian with 3000 years history but you are just one separated piece of russia which is now a great looser in war with armenian.

For a while I asumed she was Persian so I was quite shocked but delighted to learn she was Azeri so there was a whole other facet of her identity we could discuss. For for this reason the Azeri language and culture has a special place in my heart.

And as an Azerbaijani person (from Baku) who can speak both Azerbaijani and Persian, yes we have tons of similar words but the structure and grammar is different and also there are so many Turkish words that people maybe use less. So by that, if I speak Persian or Azerbaijani Turkish ,its so hard for the other person to understand or even it's like impossible...

Despite the numerous similar words, the structure of sentences and the grammar between the languages are different! Both sides definitely found it intriguing, however, and we all learned something new. One of the biggest goals with our videos is to bring people closer together and this definitely achieved that since the 3 Azerbaijanis had not met the 3 Persian speakers before and everyone became friends after this video. I am not sure how these two languages are similar. I know that Kurdish also related to Persian group of languages but it is different from Persian. And also it depends on which Kurdish to consider because as far as I know there are 3 types of Kurdish(Kurmanji, Sorani, Pahlawani). All of them have relatively low-degree of mutual intelligibility. Maybe there are similar words between Azerbaijani and Kurdish. That could be a good idea to compare also these two languages :)

There has been a trend not to use Arabic and Persian words in Turkish after the language reform. Young people today wouldn't say "hakikaten" for example. They'd say "gerçekten". And "mecburiyetindeyim" sounds a bit weird. You can change the words with their equivalents as you did here to translate and they make sense, but they are not really how those sentences are said in Turkish today.
@fairypenguin628
@fairypenguin628 5 жыл бұрын
You are wrong, "hakikaten" and "mecburiyetindeyim" are commonly used words in Turkish. Both young and old people use these words frequently, regardless of their ages. None of these sentences sound weird at all, yes you could use their equivalents but it's not necessary. For example, "Bunu size kaç defa söylemek mecburiyetindeyim" would be more polite than it's equivalent "Bunu size kaç defa söylemek zorundayım", use this second equivelant to your boss and see what happens :) The common words that are used less and would probably sound weird in modern Turkish(Turkey's Turkish) are words like tayyare(plane), avrat(woman), bala(child). You hear these words in rural areas of Turkey rather than cities.

It is an extraordinary enjoyable video to me as a Turkey Turkish. We understand almost %80-90 percent Azerbaijani Turkish. The accents are a little bit different. We have some regions that the people on this region speak like Azerbaijani. Well, Azerbaijani is considered as a different language today but it should be called Turkish in my humble opinion. In the comment i saw a lot people argue over it and interestingly everybody is right. Yes we kind of betrayed our words with the language reform (almost nobody think that way). Even the reformists tried to change the word 'word (kelime)' into a newly created word (sözcük). Nowadays I run into a lot of people (specifically young) who doesn't even now what the 'istiklal (independence)' means. But the classify of the language is about the grammer, not words (also the spoken language of Turkey Turkish haven't changed too much). Well, should be respectful what the majority people think. Anyway, in this video I understood all Azerbaijani sentences and understood almost every word. And the accents, how they make sounds are wayyy tooo similar. Thanks for this delicious video. Keep it up. Loves from Turkey who loves his own language as is, with or without loan factors, and the Persian as well.

How cool is this?! I stumbled on this video after watching a Turkish flick on Netflix, and thinking how similar Turkish sounded to Farsi as spoken by an Iranian friend (to my untrained, non-native ear). And now learned that Azeri is a derivative of Turkish. Loving learning more about the area. Where are you guys based btw? I'm hearing American influence in your English?

Like more than half of Turkish language words are Arabic, Persian and Greek or originated from those language. Study more.

Yes, there are many Iranian Azeris, but the 3 guys here are not from Iran, and I just wanted to show our love for them and their country, and yes, they are our neighbours. That's like if a Russian person said he loves his Ukrainian neighbours and you jump in to attack their comment by saying there are millions of ethnic Ukrainians in Russia so they are your countrymen and not neighbours.
