I've been vegan for a few years now but just this past month went totally oil free. It was way easier than I thought and I started feeling the benefits almost immediately. I have endometriosis and was born without my esophagus formed and have had multiple surgeries. Going oil free has helped me so much with inflammation, pain, bloating related to my gi and endo problems.

Just started plant based 6 days ago and loving it so far. Started it in an attempt to get lean after 58 years. I was working out and hit a spot where I just couldn't get the numbers to move. Started research on plant based eating and figured it would help by simply reducing my caloric intake if nothing else. I stumbled on your vids looking for ways to kick things up a notch. Never considered how much the oil made a difference. Great results so far, lets see how eliminating oil helps. Thanks for the advice!

@@pamdoherty723 + @mike c this is amazing to Hear! It’s super great for you and the environment!! I found when I switched I gained a much better focus on whole and filling foods. Started looking more at food as something that will fuel me than just hit the cravings. Obviously that fuel will taste good too. I’m talking chevron with techron (imagine if this was a new style of ad lol 😳). So finding less calorically dense foods filled with fiber and protein that fill me up for longer and help get me all those nutrients. I used to eat for instance an entire bad of chips and STILL feel hungry like an hour later and not know why. But now if all makes sense. Anyways! I hope both of your journeys are going well and that with the troubles of Covid you’ve found more time cooking and finding creat nutritious recipes :)))

@@Blue_Ocean720 Yes I think my body cant take much fat. I've noticed that since I was a teenager. But some fats makes me much sicker that others. For example all oils and butter makes me feel super fatigued.. but eating little bit of nuts is okay (even though they are hi in fat). I really don't know what's the mechanism of it. I feel the best version of myself with hi carb (hi quality carb) diet, some protein and very low fat. Also all meats makes me feel sick, even turkey fillet. Only some low fat fish works for me. I think to get salad, but I have to have "dressing", so u usually get something else since I haven't got in habbit of bringing my own dressing with me. I also try to bring my own homemade plant milk since that's the way I like my coffee, and not everywhere has plant milk. Also store bought plant milk has a lot of oil.

Indoors I am oil-free and added sugar free (my exception is I do enjoy maple syrup on popcorn rarely). I have avoided silicon mats for baking so far. I couldn't find safety research on them for baking, so I have stuck to using paper myself. I also do not limit myself when I eat out (which isn't often). Another exception is if something new comes out, I may buy it and cook it at home, so I might try a new burger (I recently tried the beyond meat burger for the first time), I like to keep up with new stuff, but I do not buy stuff like that regularly, just as a test to see what new stuff people have dreamed up. 90% of the time cook everything for scratch...

I use cast iron to brown or sear (like tofu) and put the oil on the pan AFTER I use and clean it then wipe it out and heat the pan to evaporate any left overs. As a result the pan is non stick without any additional oil at the beginning. I am sure I am ingesting some of it but it is far less and I still get the caramelization.

The other night I made a cashew sauce for baked potatoes. 1 1/2 cups cashews, a little over a cup of water (to whatever consistency you like), dill, a little salt, black pepper, a little turmeric, and some lime juice. Blended it in the Vitamix and done. Came up with it extemporaneously as I wanted something on the potatoes. Turned out to be the best topping for baked potatoes I’ve ever had. Nice and creamy and flavorful. We had lentils as well and the sauce was good on them. Had some sauce left over and put it in the fridge. Turned out it makes a great veggie dip. There was still some residual sauce in the container and I mopped it up with a spring mix of greens and turned out to make a really great salad dressing. And it took less than 5 minutes to make.

I made some oil free tofu nuggets that turned out very well. Just made a batter of nutritional yeast, curry powder, extra turmeric, smoked paprika, Himalayan salt, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Coated all the pieces and put them in the air fryer at 400 degrees for 20 minutes or so (depends on how crispy you want them) and had some really delicious tofu nuggets. Would go nicely with the fries in this video.

Great video! I’m pretty much like you, I don’t cook with oil and try to avoid it as much as possible but occasionally it will be in something pre-made I buy or if I’m out to eat, which is rare. Then I try to keep it at the bottom of the list of ingredients. You definitely notice the oily slicker after your taste buds adjust.

Dude I was always so confused about the whole yam and sweet potato confusion, but one day I finally researched it enough and found the answer: THE ARE ALL SWEET POTATOES. Everything you see in a store whether it is labeled a yam or a sweet potato is in fact a SWEET POTATO. There are many different kinds. The only yam that exists is one from Africa that is VERY large, white, and very hard and is rarely ever seen in stores. Don’t listen to the produce peeps they never know. LOL!!!! Anyways, fun fact. Hopefully this clears things up for people. :)

Yams also are found in Asia South and Central America. There are over 150 different types ranging a small potato to 7.5 ft weighing 120 lbs. Color ranging from white orange purple and pink. The biggest difference yams have more sugar then sweet potatoes. Yams are lower in vit Aand C. Confusion began when the slaves saw the sweet potatoes. They used their word for sweet potatoes and the slave owners misheard. The owners called them yams.

I'm on board with everything you're saying! You are well informed to let us know about the free radicals as well as the 0 nutrient density. Some people only mention one or two other. I just ordered a pressure cooker/air fryer combo, and dehydrator trays which I plan to use as airfrying trays too. There's a basket that comes with it but I want to see if the food crisps better on the trays. I want to convert standard recipes to vegan oil free recipes, with some of that texture, that my diabetic boyfriend can enjoy and hopefully reverse his diabetes by reducing his weight and insulin resistance. I learned from Dr Greger that saturated fat is a key factor in diabetes, it's not just the empty carbs! Thanks for the well presented and colorful video!

But I was so happy to see that you mentioned the importance of fats/lipids in our diets upfront at the very beginning that I had to comment. I see a lot of people neglecting to mention it. Even if they themselves aren’t reminiscing fats some people can fall into unhealthy cycles of eating waaaay to little fats from heating oil free videos that aren’t informative enough on that aspect of the topic. Very helpful. I tried your Kichari recipe recently sans oil of course, and we've been making it twice a week and our 6 years old grand nephew loves it! Damn, never knew olive oil had so many calories until today when I looked on the back and searched for this vid. I was hungry when I got home and wanted something quick, so had 4 pitta breads and used 5 table spoons of olive oil. 5 table spoons contained 613 calories and 68g of fat. Wtf...
