Scaborough Fair means many things to me. First, it is a beautiful traditional ballad arranged by the great folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel. And second, a small fun fair set in parking lot that came once or twice a year that I could see from my window when I lived in Scarborough (UK).
The song is about, as far as I can tell, a man that gave a girl impossible tasks to complete so he would love her, e.g. "Tell her to make me a [...] shirt without no seams nor needle work, then she'll be a true love of mine", etc. So yeah, not a very nice guy! As for the "parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme", I read somewhere that it could be the ingredients of a love potion, although it sounds more to me like the basis of a great stew (then again, they say that you can get to a man's heart through is stomach, so I suppose it still works as a love potion...)
I made this one as gift for my dad about 5 or 6 years ago as he is a huge fan of the duo. At that time I had just learned it on the guitar and it felt like it would work well on a music box, so I literally arranged it by reproducing Paul Simon's guitar line and adding the melody on top. I like the result, even though I wonder how it might sound to the ear of someone who doesn't know the original melody. Anyways, I hope you'll enjoy it!
Original arrangement from 1966 by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.
Arranged for a 30-notes music box with MusicBox Composer.
