Doug King has undermined Robins ever since last season ended. His 2 main allies in Lawrence and Viveash left and a whole host of iPad technicians were brought in to assist Robins. Robins was a dead man walking from that moment on. He’s cut a lonely figure since. No Coventry fan is happy with this and we all wish Mark the best from here on in. There’s Only One Mark Robins. 👏

I'm speculating, but I think when MR and AV got those four year contracts there was a lot of uncertainty on the future of Dennis Lawrence (i.e no contract, maybe a rolling one at best), that started to unsettle the dugout, then the AV sacking, it's no secret that those two steps have contributed to our decline. Given the nature of football and with the realistic scenario of the board trying to bring a young manager on board, I was hoping that at worst they'd move MR upstairs as a director of football maybe. Still cannot see what these coaches do, Carr seems to be the only one with a bit of umph about him.

Why should they? The standard of the championship this season really isn't great and with the likes of Wright, Sheaf, Sakamoto, Simms, Thomas-Asante etc. They have a squad that can make the play-offs. Why waste the opportunity purely out of sentiment when they've been poor in the league since the last two months of last season too? They've spent money and have ambitions of making the Premier League. If you want to achieve that, there's only so much room for sentiment.
@taylorr72 ай бұрын
@@benphipps6498you been a fickle Cov fan since 2021 pal. Been a Cov fan for 30 years and he earned a whole season. Would have took a 21st finish rather than deal with a merry go round of managers, we had 16 in 14 years.
@benphipps64982 ай бұрын
@taylorr7 I don't support Coventry, I support Leicester, and I frankly couldn't care less as to what happens to Cov. Why do you think I said 'they' instead of 'we'? I just think your squad is better than it's shown and should be challenging at the top end of the table. If the ownership have aspirations of reaching the Premier League, they're only going to be so sentimental.

@@benphipps6498I suppose you were up for Ranieri getting sacked after your premiership title win ? Sometimes people deserve sentiment and time for creating moments they won’t forget
@benphipps64982 ай бұрын
@taylorr7 Actually, I defended the decision at the time, as did most of us. It was obviously very sad and nobody wanted to see it happen, but the club would have been in deep trouble given the contracts that had been handed out to the players if relegated. As it happens, the decision purely from a footballing perspective was completely vindicated. The team finished 12th that season despite looking certain to go down and made the last 8 of the champions league and then qualified went onto finish in the top half for several seasons afterwards and won the FA cup. If Cov now fly up the table under a new manager and get promoted via the playoffs (automatics probably out of reach now), would you still think it was the wrong decision? The one thing I do find confusing about the sacking is the timing. You've won two of your last three games. If it was me, I'd have given him the next three (very difficult) games and if he failed to win any of them, I would have then made the change because it would at least give a new manager a run at some 'easier' games. I do understand however why a chairman that wants the club to be promoted would make a change if he feels the team are underachieving.

As a Leicester fan that obviously doesn't like Coventry, their squad is one of the best in the championship. Let's not act like having that group of players outside of the relegation on goal difference is them punching well above their weight. Robins had done a brilliant job there overall but it doesn't mean that's wrong to move if things aren't going well. That squad should finish in the top six of the championship or at very least in the top 8 and as long as they appoint a competent manager, they'll finish comfortably mid table at very least.

@@mattweir991 Why have things gone a bit wrong for Robins if he’s been able to reinvest in the squad?
@mattweir9912 ай бұрын
@@adrianbennett3761 ultimately Robins had success with us when he ran everything, recruitment, his man ran coaching, if robins didn't do it, it was his people. This new owner has come in and seen that other (bigger and better) clubs tend to operate with different departments all supporting the on field operations. Ultimately, he has decided to make that change but kept robins in a head coach role which I don't really think he is, as a manager phenomenal, but in that sense I think a lot of our fans feel he has been stitched up. Namely recruitment seems to have bought some duds and overpaid in some cases, the tactics haven't worked and players don't seem to be putting much effort in. I think we are trying to transition and that's had a bigger impact than anyone expected. Let's be honest Coventry had no right to have a player of Gyokeres' quality, we had no right being in the FA Cup semi finals and running Utd as close as we did but that was all robins and his team. What happens next, I guess will be Doug and his teams doing.

While this decision is very sad it has been clear from recent performances taken as a whole that the team is not progressing. doug king has been spoilt since he bought the club with trips to wembley, and he must think its easy for a team to repeat this each year. doug king is clearly a person with no experiance of running a football club, owners of football clubs do not make money please bear in mind that doug king is worth on paper £80 million quid so he has not got the money to keep investing in the club, he does not even own the stadium.look at the wealth of the owners in this league the majority are worth 500 million and some are billionaires in sacking mark robins and letting adi viveash go when he did, doug king is a silly man doing this we had a chance of returning to the premiership under robins and viveash and all i can see is a relegation battle ensuing and i would not be surprised if we are relegated. doug king is looking for his money back, big money due from the sell on clause of victor gyorkes sell a couple more players and he has got his investment back. i also think there is more to it about ellis simms injury and not giving palmer a contract. doug king is a complete plonker in my opinion.
