Southgate is a very lucky manager, in the fact that he has had 3 tournaments in a row where England have managed to avoid the main contenders to win the trophy. England always come unstuck when they are faced with a real football nation. England could possibly ghost their way to the final, but the team they face will have been through tough battles to reach that stage.

The art of tournament football is to improve match by match, without over extending your fitness. England are doing that. We have played walking football at times; Spain have gone hell for leather and they will pay the price. France are the only other team conserving energy. This looks like the final to me and it will be close.

1986 is the first international comp I remember. Mexico. I had the panini sticker book and collected all the stickers. I remember the Hand of God moment. I remember Italia 90. Nessum Dorma. I cried when we left the competition on penalties; Garza, Linekar, etc. I remember ‘94. USA. We hadn’t qualified but i remember McDonalds had a “hat trick burger”. France 98; Beckham red card. Huddle…. My child hood years are full of memories around England in international camps. They brought the country together. I felt pride and excitement throughout the tournament. Southgate is sucking all of the life and enjoyment out of watching England. It’s so dire. Get him out

England have played minnows and lower ranked teams who've all been parking the bus and happy to get a draw with us. When we're against the big boys I think our lads will be up for it and play better.

Let's not be deluded here; Media platforms are there to achieve broadcasting numbers and to generate dividends for shareholders. (BBC, slightly different, but have a budget so numbers need to be hit) Fluffy, praise and nice soundbites isn't in their vocabulary of news making, especially given the amount of content competition out there. England topped the table, and can grow and make adjustments in the tournament. Overly negative opinions/ assessments ( which are always led with) are counter productive and are worthless at this stage, let's see how far he gets them and then make a judgement.

England have been shocking in 3 games, they are nowhere near as good a team that got to a final and lost but they still played well, Southgate should have gone after the last tournament and they should have brought someone else in, England are flat there’s no get up and go there’s no urgency, they’re playing way too deep why is Kane coming back deep he’s a striker he stays upfront that’s how you’re taught, the thing is Southgate is defensive minded he was a defender when he played, and Slovakia will attack and come at England because England are too scared to attack and close players down when England lead they defend the lead you are taught at club level to kill of the game by scoring goals not sitting back and that’s what the fans don’t understand the fans pay money to watch them play all over the world and they want to see England win but a small percentage of fans don’t like Southgate to be criticised

Aston Villa fc has already got their accounts in order for FFP/PSR,so its not an issue anymore. Douglas Luiz wanted a new challenge & was told when he signed his last contract after Arsenal had had 3 bids rejected that he wouldn't be priced out of a move,also with only 2 years remaining on his current contract & not willing to sign a another one Villa decided to cash in after Juventus wanted to sign him,contact was made in January, so it wasn't a surprise.

Southgate reminds me of Rishi Soonout. How to fail upwards. Play like that, still finish top and end up avoiding France, Germany, Spain and Portugal. The Slovakian team bus will probably get hit by a comet on the way to the stadium on Sunday.
