So true. I do believe that having played at the top level gives them certain insights and transferable skills that can be useful in management - I'm sure Lampard is more suited to football management than me or the average fan in the stands - but it's laughable to suggest that a top player is ready to smoothly transition from retirement into top level coaching. They should either take up coaching/assistant roles under managers they work well with, as Arteta did, or else they should move down the pyramid and coach in the Football League, not just for a season or two but for 5, even 10 years. Sadly these ex-players are either full of themselves enough to think that they still belong at the top, are addicted to being in the spotlight, or are just atrociously advised. Probably all 3.

I agree, the Prem is a cut-throat league for a new manager, the Champ is a proper bun-fight all season, and is a far better place to cut your teeth as you'll get away with a mistake or two whilst you're trying things out.

Agreed. Vincent Kompany a good example to an extent. Cut his teeth as a player coach, then moved into management and now in the championship. No sign he's jumping ship soon either

@@dalehusband7 Anderlecht are a sizeable club no doubt, but the Belgian league is exactly the kind of environment young managers should be looking for. See also Graham Potter managing in Sweden, and Eddie Howe starting in League 2 and rising up the divisions as he and his club grew. I think even the Championship is a bit high a tier for somebody who's never done a day's coaching in their life, Lampard and Gerrard should have been looking to manage in League One or Two, or perhaps the Scottish second division or the league of Ireland. Or indeed the MLS.

Everton has improved and went on a 6-game unbeaten run. Recent results, are not good enough, they have to bring in a goalscorer, they're defence is decent and the midfield can function but need goals if they can score 1 a game they'll pick up plenty of points with the defence. They were mad to let Anchelotti walk out. Whoever came up with that decision should've been shot. He's proved time & time a winner. A true world class manager and he was slowly getting better results. For one thing tidy the stadium up. Seeing the likes of Anchelotti, Benitez & Koeman forced to squeezed in to your little muddy dugout was, and still is, embarrassing. It just looks grubby. The fans are frustrated. Of course they are. Languishing down below in no mans land along with west ham, forest and wolves. Everton do have the potential to take off one day. To finally get back to winning trophies again. And they have excellent players too. Can they trust Frank to have the knowledge, the wisdom, man management capabilities to inspire to bring out the best this team can give? Or is he just too inexperienced at this stage of his career? You can see he's visibly pained by defeat and his players. I Hope we see him smile again soon.

the squad is too good for this string of poor results. pickford is a lock for the national team, coady and even tarkowsky consistently getting shouts to get into the national team, mykolenko is pretty good, iwobi gueye and onana are named players in their positions, gray and gordon are very good technical youngsters. yes calvert-lewin has been injured, and they need an upgrade on coleman, but beyond that, this squad should be a top 6 team at least!

If DCL spent as much time concentrating on his football career as he did on his modelling career then maybe he wouldnt be getting as much stick as he is for his poor performances of late (injuries aside) Simon said that he is on the front of GQ magazine holding a handbag - which he is!!! Everton football club by DCL millions of pounds a year, and he is a professional footballer, he should be concentrating on that! The modelling can be done pre-season or when he retires if thats what he wants to do!
