Yeah Simon Kinberg always getting screenplay or story from other films, he also acted the producer of The Martian, First Sherlock Holmes film with RDJ, Some previous Fox X-Men films and Elysium starring Matt Damon. I guess he also direct Dark Phoenix which is the worst one but OK film because I hate The Last Stand.

This is probably another spin in getting Rey back. Kennedy is not going to let go of this,shes determined to somehow bring this character back. So its a case of 'oh we cancelled the Rey movie but heres episodes 10,11,12 Starring Daisy Ridley as Rey! Disney Star Wars is doomed absolutey doomed. This director sounds very good to handle a new trilogy. This doesn't guarantee this project is happening. But honestly he sounds like the best man since favreau was tapped to direct his movie.(James Mangold has lost a little credibility after the dial of destiny. That movie felt like a side quest)

No matter who is at the helm i cannot see any future interest in Rey, Finn, Poe or any other sequel trilogy characters. It would have to take a 360 with all new characters and a well written fully thought out story ark. Lastly, i cannot think of anyone still talking about the sequel trilogy in ANY way, shape or form so there is obviously no interest in that story direction or characters

John, you are spot on. Kinberg’s last two X-Men movies at Fox (Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix) were both hot garbage but his work on Star Wars with Rebels was great. I too have reservations this will end happen. Lucasfilm simply can’t get a Star Wars movie off the ground. It’s been over 5 years and it won’t be until 2027 until a new movie comes out. I don’t trust Kathleen Kennedy at all but I hope these delays are a good thing because quality needs to be a priority.

the thing I fear now is that the studio fears they put quantity over quality and are now overcorrecting with too much studio interference or as many like to say "creative differences". The same fate shared by apocolypse, Pheonix and Fant4stic(studio interference specifically not actually creative differences) I can see this man making a good movie or trilogy than being let go cause he won't faulter on his creative vision.

The new story is not meant to be a continuation of the Skywalker Saga, the name of the overall arc of the popular and pop culture-dominating Star Wars movies known as Episodes 1 through 9. The intent here is to have brand new characters and a new story, and not have it be a continuation, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. (Although that does not mean that some characters could not or would not pop up.)

Yes, these films he wrote are terrible, but we should not forget that they all fell into production hell. "The Last Stand" and "Apocalypse" were rushed into production to capitalize on the success of the previous films. Moreover, in both cases, the studio wanted tonal changes so that they were more action-oriented. And "The Last Stand" also had to be glued together from two scripts by different people. And "Fantastic Four 2015" and "Dark Phoenix" had to reshoot huge parts of the film either because of problems between the director and the studio, or because of "similarities with another superhero film that was released at the same time" and the fact that the franchise ended due to the purchase of Fox by Disney. I don't think that this fully justifies their quality, but I know for sure that under such conditions it is very difficult to write a good script. So maybe if they give Kinberg enough time and don't change everything halfway, something good will come out of it. And the fact that now the entire trilogy will be written by one person means that they are trying to learn from their mistakes and now these films can at least have one vision of how events will unfold.

I had a "on this day x number of years ago" post pop up on my Facebook, when i posted about Force Awakens being announced. I was SOOOOO excited to be getting more Star Wars, like I couldn't believe this was something actually happening. Fast forward to today. I'm equally torn between "just save us all the trouble and don't bother" and "it's almost certainly getting canceled like every other movie they announced." How pathetic is that. In 10 years time, the Star Wars brand has been completely tarnished for me.

The state of star wars is in the tank. I grew up on it but haven't been invested since the last jedi and I think a lot of fans are in a similar place. If they make something good they will get me back but I'm skeptical. It will really depend on the story they tell. Give me an old republic or bane trilogy. If it's just a Rey defeating a new form of the empire it'll be a disaster.

Until Lucasfilm gets some new leadership I'm not expecting a lot. The leadership is bad. How many projects have been announced and dropped or drastically changed over creative differences. Kathleen Kennedy was an excellent producer, especially when teamed up with Frank Marshall, but she has not proven a very good studio head. Not to keep beating a dead horse but it's time for her to move on and let someone else give it a go. She's had ten years and while Force Awakens and Rogue One got things started off alright it has been rocky ever since. The Star Wars streaming content lately has been horrible from Obi-Wan to The Acolyte to Book of Boba Fett and even season 3 of The Mandalorian. It's clear they are struggling to make good content that the audience is interested in.

Lucasfilm's theatrical division is in such an unbelievably incompetent and dysfunctional state of affairs that announcements have absolutely no meaning to me whatsoever anymore. Speaking as a lifelong and deep Star Wars fan. The running of Lucasfilm (into the ground) has necessitated the adage: "Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear." Forget making a GOOD Star Wars movie, they can't even make A Star Wars movie. When I see a trailer I will *consider* getting excited, and even that's about 50/50.
