F' me. That may have been the best drumming I've ever seen. Simon's style is so unique. Love how he snuck in the double bass at the end. Many will not be impressed, but I love how it filled in the sound. All the other little things he did in his solo were just sick. Tight band and the drums sound so sweet.
@francoisrossignol79612 жыл бұрын
I'm impressed by the musicality of the double bass you are talking about. But over all, there is a musical intention that is beyond the virtuosity skills that does the job to impress the mainstream audience. He has grown above that. This is a brilliant musician who wants to get better and better until death does him appart from music.

Greg Howe is one of the most underrated guitar player ever. He has an unbelievably rich vocabulary. Often, when i listen to Guthrie Govan i can clearly hear some Greg Howe stuff going. I don't know much of a role model Greg has been for Guthrie but they are clearly in the same ballpark, in regards to vocabulary as well as their technical finesse. Having Simon and Greg on one stage is almost unreal!

Indeed. I wonder why his name never comes up in all those "Top 10" drummer threads. Sometimes when I read those it seems like Neil Peart and John Bonham are untouchable gods that no one will ever top. Well perhaps that's the case but that leaves eight spots to be filled and Simon should be part of it, imho.

I'm astounded there are no comments about how great this session is. Premium SP. Old school riding on the Swish and towards the back end, in come the double bass drums... thats SP's trade mark of old . The first time I heard him was on a Gary Boyle album called "Electric glide" and the track was "Hayabusa". For those of you who dont know it, check it out. I think Simon was about 10 years old when he did it. :-) only joking, he was 21. :-) You have all these "Gospel" drummers these days who try to cram as many notes as they can in to a bar and leave no space for taste and or flavour in their playing. Alas , SP does that in spades. He can do a single flam in to a chorus and say so much more.( A fill that comes to mind are the fills on pete towsend's album "white city" and the track is "give blood") check it out, you wont be disappointed..... :-)
