In the mid 90s I had the extreme pleasure of reuniting 3 original real members on a satellite TV series I produced. Mark g, Floyd m, and frank j after not seeing eachother in over 30 years performed to a backing track simon and 123 red-light. A night I will never forget.

Another post adding to above, I also was very fortunate to sit down with Mark G and have a serious near 30 minute interview which was really just for me personally. Mark does not like the spotlight, but he saw my enthusiasm and was so gracious answering all of my questions regarding those bubblegum days. Yes I have the videotape which was professionally shot and he brought his gold record with him of "Simon Says"

Really??? On the basis that this song is now 56 years old, surely these guys must at least be in their early to mid eighties. That's if the original line up is even still alive! I can't see them swinging anything but their Zimmer frames to the left or their right at that age 👨🏻🦯👨🦼👨🦽👩🦯 But of course if there are any originals still performing, then 'Simon Says' good luck & good health to them

Just saw something quite odd. There is or was don't know if it is still in print. The title is ROCK OBITUARIES: KNOCKING ON HEAVEN'S DOOR by Niick Talevski and it has a complete obituary for Mark Gutkowski, the group's lead vocalist. And it has his birth year as 1948 and the year he died as 1998. l don't know where he got his info but both are wrong. He was born in 1950, he said so himself in his 2002 interview with a radio station in Australia. Not available here in the U.S. but I got around that. Spelled his last name wrong, too. It said cause "unknown" I am thinking he has Mark confused with Steve. He died in the 90's AND Steve was a guitarist, Mark was primarily a keyboard player. He played the Hammond B3 organ, the piano, and much later played guitar for the band, along with being lead vocalist. Saw that in a video, that has since been taken down. He also played the accordion. I think the interview was in 2002, I don't remember.

@MG-es2no2 жыл бұрын
@@pgh45rpms Yes, he's the one. I read on another site for this video, that he took his life back in the nineties. And Frank Jeckel said in an interview when asked if all the original members were going back on the road or something like that. Mark had just started his music store business, and was concentrating on that. He said Floyd Marcus was back as drummer. He also said, without giving details, "Our original bass player is no longer with us." Can't remember what Patrick was doing. But he was not with them. Frank did not name any names. He identified them by their instrument.
@pgh45rpms2 жыл бұрын
@@MG-es2no I found online what I think is Steve's obituary, dated Feb. 3, 2004. He was residing in Lexington KY at the time of his death, formerly of Linden NJ. His funeral and period of mourning was held at the Mortkowitz residence in NJ. Survived by two sons and a daughter, also two sisters, But no mention of a wife/widow. I hope there were no strained relationships among the band members, but sometimes, unfortunately, it happens.
