"Never asking for help is selfish." Well, that one hit me.
@chrisklugh
@chrisklugh Ай бұрын
Me too. Cause I notice that I don't ask for help anymore. Like its been a trend for me in the past 10+ years. I don't know if I'm being defensive, or if this is the absolute truth, but I don't trust anyone. Asking for help is followed up by how much its going to cost me. Everything is monetized. There is no community of people anymore. Friends are not the friends I had 10+ years ago. Back in the day we invested our Social Capital in each other. No one does that anymore. I live with 3 roommates and they are strangers too me. We rarely see each other in person. The only thing I see is the mess they leave behind. I've grown very resentful to strangers. Stranger Danger. Everyone is out for themselves. I blame our addiction to the internet for that. Nothing has socially divided us then anything else. Nothing created more loneliness then the addiction everyone has to be alone with their screens.
@isyrafismail7801
@isyrafismail7801 Ай бұрын
@@chrisklugh I get your POV. I understand but blaming things is sign of unmature (sorry if it sound harsh) If you want some advice, try to give some gift or cook something to eat together. Maybe it'll be little awkward but you'll overcome it eventually. But don't get too stress when things going south as we know there will be some drama, and so on, you name it. Good luck mate.
@chrisklugh
@chrisklugh Ай бұрын
@@isyrafismail7801My point is based on the lack of social investment people put in others. Everyone is a revolving door. People come, people go. We don't settle in and build lasting relationships anymore. So in the mean time, people are minimizing what they do for others. I know I'm guilty of this too. But as long as we have minimal engagement with others, were going to minimize the risks of doing favors for them. It has come down to how much are you going to pay me to be your friend. Cause pizza and beer is not enough of a payment when asking a 'friend' in time of moving. They are too busy or comparing it to a days work in pay. Between monetizing everything and apps, there is no more human connection anymore. Only Rich people have friends it seems. Poor people are just junkies looking for a fix. The middle class is too busy being online. And nobody really gives a shit about anyone but themselves.

For the past week, these podcasts have really woken me up and put things into perspective for me. I have been depressed and wondering why I have a lack of motivation to actually get out there and take the steps towards doing what I love and having a purpose in life while I’m doing it. This is Big for me, but just the first step. I appreciate your platform of honesty and how you always bring to life our thoughts, the unspoken truth of our lives. You say it out loud. I also appreciate your sacrifice which is giving your time in order to help us inner-stand our own purpose and meaning to life. This is beautiful. Thank you 🤎✨

This CD has three separate relaxation/meditation sessions on it kzbin.infoUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq guided by a very pleasant and direct male voice. Unlike so many other products of its type, this CD does not have bad synthesizer music, does not feature a phony or affected style of narration, and does not make any bogus claims to be subliminal or to re-train the brain or any of that balderdash. What you get is 1. a guided meditation for getting into a pleasantly relaxed state of body awareness while taking a stroll (superb for those easing back into a fitness routine slowly after an illness or injury) 2. A nice long breath-awareness relaxation session that if followed diligently can put you into very deep states of full-body relaxation and mental calmness, and 3. a buddhist-inspired meditation session designed to help you develop and maintain feelings of loving kindness toward not just yourself and your friends, but toward people you don't even like. The CD makes no claims to be designed for advanced meditators or for buddhists or hindus/yoga practitioners looking for very deep and esoteric stuff. It is geared more toward the average person who just wants to develop the habit of relaxation and stress relief through natural, healthy means. him, if you happen to be reading this, keep up the good work fella, and I love your accent. I would also like to note that I have never fallen asleep while listening to this product. I would like to kindly suggest to the reviewer who said this CD makes him fall asleep, that he might want to get checked to see if he has a sleep disorder, or if he is simply not setting aside ample time for restful sleep at night. A healthy person getting adequate rest at night should be able to go into deep states of mental relaxation without dozing off, if not all the time, then most of the time.

Simon made me feel so much better about myself when he admitted to not being able to read books because of ADHD - I have the very same problem! I have bookshelves packed with books that I bought because I want the information that is inside them, but I just can't stay concentrated when reading. It is very encouraging to hear such an intelligent and articulate man as Simon Sinek has the same issue. Discovering Audible has been a gamechanger for me, as I listen much better than I read, and I can do it in the car, while doing chores etc.

I’ve felt his comment about ADHD and the difficulty in reading. I made the decision to switch to audiobooks over 20 years ago and it was a game changer. Now I “read” quite a few books per year and use a text to talk app for long articles online. Occasionally a purist will comment about my not making time to sit and read a book, I ask them if blind people are really reading when they use their fingers.🤔

Amy, I agree with you. I've had audible for a year now and it's been a godsend. I used youtube for a long time, even spotify, but it was hard to find anything good without a robot. Audiobooks are the number one reason I was able to start reading physical books again. It was engaging enough for me, to hear an author and the way they speak it made things so much relatable. And because of that, I often will research authors and get used to their voice and manner of speaking so that when I read a book by them I can apply it in the way they would intonate and so on. But it took me almost 20 years to read again, and listen. I did it at work all the time, but when I got home, I just could never get into it. I still love my audible account and often listen to books when I am driving or exercising, in times when I am able to really digest things and remember things.

Alot of what he says is exactly how I've spent my whole life feeling and knowing without having the ability to put it into the right words to explain to others. Being the eldest of a single parent household, I happily have always sacrificed alot for my family and put them first. I'm grateful for the lessons I learnt at a very early age. Don't let the world label you "ADHD". Understand this, weakness is sometimes in fact a strength. Labels don't help, they help the medical department make more money tho. I'm not even halfway through and I couldn't agree more with the wisdom being shared. Awareness of your "why" coupled with action leads to self-truthfulness and an authenticity led life. Here we find our purpose. Here we find service, and true love can only exist in spaces of unconditional love and understanding. And all these things, as Simon stated, require sacrifice. This is the space most fertile for growth. Such potent reminders, super grateful for this podcast. A space perfectly held!

Amazing, lots of things to learn, unlearn and re-learn, always from this podcast. What stood out for me is 1. being comfortable with having uncomfortable conversation. That is acquiring conflict resultion skills. 2. Self awareness is the basis of personal growth. 3. Truth is exhibited from letting people help you. Asking for help is a form of service because you are allowing someone else to experience the joy of doing so. Not asking for help is actually a selfish act. 4. How do I take care of those closest to me? to ensure my tribe is strong 5. The tree of monkeys in the co-operate space....lol 6. Replacing judgement with curiosity. 7. Practice being honest. Truth does not have to be brutal.

Oh wow thank you Simon! I've never understood why I can't and will not read. I'm dyslexic and was so short-sighted as a child that I had a learning disability and came last in class every year from grade 1-5. When an eye doctor came to my school, it was then that I realized that it was not my brain, but my eyes. I went home and relearned everything, reading, writing, presenting, and came 2nd in class the end of that year. Since then I've gone from failure to heightened intelligence that I cannot explain where the ideas and knowledge comes from, yet today I've learned that it's my truth that is service to others. Service to humanity is the only thing that matters at the end of the day.

I’ve been reflecting on how much connection I have to this Podcast. I was fortunate enough to see Steven Bartlett speak live at HubSpot Inbound 2023, his ability to captivate is in a rarefied atmosphere. One thing that kept coming up for me is how brilliant the name is “The Diary of a CEO”. It inherently is grounded in openness, and invitational. We’re seeing behind the curtain. That comes through in the guest’s delivery, but also delivers on what was discussed on this episode around truth seeking. I’m hooked! Kudos all around. This was the best dialogue I’ve seen with Simon to date.

This was such a powerhouse video. The first one I’ve seen of yours and the first I’ve heard of you but I was talking back and agreeing with so much being said about sustainability and create a more just world and being honest that I can’t wait to watch your other videos and hear from you and your other guess. Kudos to the quality of your podcast. ❤

Thank you Simon You just inspired me to finally publish my children’s book, it’s a book encouraging expression and heathy relationships at a young age. I faced trauma as a child and want more than anything for children not to go through what I did. The book has been developing dust for the last 4 years! Also thank you Steven, another great interview 🙌❤️🦋

Remembering the "why" ...you're doing this, is the reason you will finish it. What I learned from this podcast is that when the *cause* is tied to helping others, we find purpose and fulfillment. Yours is tied to helping children...

Thank you. Simon Sinek is one of the best speakers and motivators there is. I especially like the way he lets the reader (or listener) make their own choices, he does not try to tell you what is right he simply gives you an idea of how to look for it.

I have been listening to this podcast for quite some time and have found a comforting place where I can take away key understandings from hese interviews while still feeling as though I can still pursue my true self. I find that many other podcasts make me feel as though I should be changing my life and who I am. For this comfort, I thank you. You and your guests have been aiding millions of people in becoming healthier and more conscious about themselves.

Yet another soul-filling interview. I shared the part where Simon spoke of his difficulty reading books with my son as he struggles the same way. I'm always telling and showing my son how he just needs to accept who he is and not shame himself for not being what he thinks is good or important. Seeing him nod and smile when Simon shared his story made my heart very happy. And the part about the Da Vinci Code cracked me up because I told my son earlier this month that one book I KNOW he could read and love would be The Divinci Code because of the same reasons Simon shared. Thank you for doing what you do Steven. You & Simon helped my son accept himself a little more today.

I love watching Steven 'get it' when one of his guests says something that strikes a chord with him. You can instantly see that Steven is mentally making a note to check his own actions, behaviours etc. It makes you feel like you're in the room with him and his guest, and helps the viewers get another level of teaching, and nudging us all to seek that level of authenticity and levelling up of our own actions etc. I loved this interview in particular as Simon has a knack of breaking it down to layman's terms for everyone to enjoy. Excellent interview. Thank you to all involved, in front of and behind the camera.

"We are just using different language to mask the insidiousness of our real decisions." Are we surprised? This is today's motto... in almost every situation. Ethics, integrity, and empathy are rare values these days. I found myself '"violating my own ethics," and my stress got out of control, couldn't take the bullsh*t anymore and I retired. This video is a validation of so many things I experienced. Thank you, Simon & Steven.

Steven, thank you for another incredible episode, full of golden nuggets. The best parts are obviously those where you and Simon are sharing the uncomfortable truth. These truly vulnerable things like your selfish goals, Simon not reading books, not accepting compliments... You are letting us discover the real humans behind the most incredible people (you included) inspiring us to do the same - sharing our truth. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

This podcast has truly enhanced my life in terms of how I think and as a result the choices I make, it has also affected others in terms of what I had shared with them being learnt from the podcast (Ex. The 51%, talking back to Becky and so much more), it especially had a profound affect on my mother who had looked into her own journey of grief and made different choices accordingly after she listened to your first episode with Mo Gawdat. I can’t thank yourself and the team enough, to many more informative and honest conversations.

Such value in these kind of talks and the fact that's "for free" is event mind-blowing that not more people are listening. I would LOVE to be so lucky to attend such conversations although that would mean to travel from Jersey to London and take time away from work ❤️ I've firstly came across you as a dragon and really admired you for what you've achieved and the way you talk no only to the attendees but to the dragons too. Keep this up, you're both brilliant and I know you both know that but really the impact of it on 'us' is far more than you both imagine Lots of respect and love Chris

Simon is brilliant and has contributed greatly to a wider discourse on people and businesses being more conscious. I think that some of his views are definitive as though there is only one way to view a concept. I think he should be aware of that if he already isn't. I hope that just like he has learned to expand his mindset and awareness about listening and its various forms, he can also learn that one moment doesn't define anything or anyone but that moment in itself. So essentially a person can be more present in many other ways besides in one particular moment. This is in reference to the yoga teacher who has decided that during yoga is where she feels most present and that may be true for her. She may also have other ways that she is present but in that particular moment with Simon and the group she may not have been as present as he would like doesn't deny her the experience of presence in other ways. In reference to having meaning in one's life, I think that people can also derive meaning in life without directly being in service to anyone because it depends on the individual and their values how they can best derive meaning in their life. Yes I do agree with Simon that deriving meaning in service to others is very fulfilling. A huge fan of Simon and agree with him on many other things.

Knowing “why” is everything if you want to live a life of contentment. If money is the goal then you will never be content. I’ve been blessed with this realisation from a young age, that in times of need and in times of plenty, your greatest wealth is your purpose… That is the good that you can bring to yourself and others, like Simon said through sacrifice, empathy, trust and understanding. Thanks to Steven and Simon I hope many of us are closer to attaining that true wealth of contentment.
