I don't have a canoe and know absolutely nothing about sailing. That being said, I found this really entertaining, highly instructional and more than a little inspirational. Another medicinal mind-calming episode with Simon at 4am. Always love your content Simon. Keep em coming.

Ahoy, is there anything more satisfying than the sound of crisp new sails?! I’ve been sailing all of my 63 years, and now I’m searching for a suitable kayak rig to take along while I’m out camping with my travel trailer (caravan). Your handcrafted canoe is even more enviable Simon! Fair winds and following seas.... ⛵️

I think you did a wonderful job installing the hardware and can't wait to see how it sails. But please remember that a canoe with a sail is now a sail boat and not a canoe. From a die hard canoeist. From Canada.

I love the fact that after a rubbish day of work, meetings etc a video from Simon pops up. Make a brew, settle down and be transported away from the daily grind for half an hour. Great to see a sail going on and I’ll be looking forward to more adventures. You’re certainly going to have your work cut out going upwind on some of the Norfolk waterways.😀

So lovely to see this. You'll love it! We've got a FyneBoatKits MillCreek 16.5 with the sail kit and it's great fun. With two in the kayak it balances well but I've found that I needed to move my seat and the lee board in order to balance it when sailing solo. I did have a rather "interesting" trip once where my seat was too far back and it would only go downwind at quite a rate. If it's any encouragement, I've never capsized, but then maybe I'm a bit chicken with the sheet. I've never cleated it, so I can let go of the "bravery string" anytime I get nervous. Happy Sailing!

So happy to have found your video! I've dreamed of sailing since I was a child, and this year Im going to get a canoe to make the same kind of rig! I'm BEYOND excited to finally live the dream!!! And even better, a sailboat I can transport on the roof of my car!

Of course I will be waiting for that sailing video to appear. But as someone who has been in carpentry since I was 16,, owned my own handyman business for 25 to 30 years somewhere in there,,, and I've been around a lot of people that do and don't know what they're doing and everything in between. and I can honestly say you have a unique skill set Simon !! And although I have no doubt you're happy in your little world,,, over here in the US there's a big need to fill a niche with people with your skill set especially when it comes to this generation of Van dwellers. I've heard multiple times on the internet of people saying that there's long waits,,, & very hard to find someone who can take what they envision and make it become a reality !!! because not everybody can do that !! some people can only follow drawings some people can only follow what someone else is done,,, but to take something from someone's mind and make them see it that's a whole another level altogether. U would do well here my friend 👍🏽👍🏽. Anyway, ☮️ And keep on rocking the free world ☺️ Simon. Ps.. I appreciate the fact that you're also good in the kitchen but I really enjoy watching you do things or what you made or creations or something simply because that's where I'm at that's where my head is. 😊

Hi Simon. Been watching your sailing rig build. I have a tip for your wing nuts. Use a hole cutter to make 2 discs from some 20mm stock. Before you cut right through, use a table saw to cut a 5mm deep slot across the discs through the centre. Continue with the hole cutter. Put these discs on your bolts and put the wing nuts on upside down so the wings get stuck in the slot. You now have a knob to tighten the nut which is less painful than tightening the wing nuts. More importantly, your wing nuts will now float.

Well done that man! Can't wait to see her out under sail. Nice job and it looks great. I love your canoe, such a pretty boat! (BTW, after months of faffing and not having the correct canisters, I finally managed to complete converting my UCO candle lantern to an oil/paraffin lamp over the Bank Holiday weekend, as per your video from way back! Just experimenting now with different wicks as the Zippo one burns well for a short time and then, no matter how well trimmed, fans out at the top and the flame dies back giving far less light...hmmm).
@peterlindley37563 жыл бұрын
Just a thought~ is the hole for the wick to tight .it might be restricting the oil been drawn up the wick
@lawrencemartin11133 жыл бұрын
@@peterlindley3756 Hello Peter and thanks for the reply. No, as it turns out, I have experimented with several minor changes to the way the wick emerges and there is no restriction. It is actually the way that the wick material degrades after about 20mins to half an hour of burn time and it seems to 'grow' three carbon covered lumps at the top which cause the flame to reduce to a rather sad little glow! I have trimmed, shortened, extended etc etc. to no avail. I have some new wick material to try it with and I have even made a whole new duplicate top from another chain ring bolt to screw in. I have not had time to sit and play with it just yet...(I teach for a living and 'Teacher Assessment' is pretty full on right now!). Thanks again.

Thanks, Simon. Always a pleasure to see a new video. Your adventures inspired me to take my canoe down to the delta where the winds can be strong and contrary.
