Thanks , Crowy, for raising the issue of health and fitness for us carp anglers. I’m 72 now, and can promise you it gets harder to do as you get older. But every hour I do in the gym reminds me that I can still get out and do it…. Congrats on those big winter fish, too

Some stunning carp to end your winter syndicate session Simon. Great angling and well done mate! You are right to highlight the importance of looking after your health. I had cancer in my early 60's, and I'm now in my mid 70's, I still thoroughly enjoy my carp fishing. I've also suffered with depression in the past, but there is nothing better to get out by the side of a lake to improve your mental health. So in addition to the importance of staying physically fit, it is also just as important to stay mentally fit too, and a 24, 48, or longer session on the waters edge is perfect for that. Really enjoyed the vlog as always Simon, so keep them coming.

Some stunning fish Simon 👌. I do love fishing the winter to spring period, end February March to April. Had my best results often at start off the season. This year the same, first fish of the season clocked at 20,8 kg . Second fish on a different water at 25,2 kg and set my Dutch PB in the magical 25 kg range. Awesome start to the 2023 season . Loved the video again Simon as always a joy to watch. Wish you a great 2023 fishing season and looking forward to viewing your adventures during the year. Have a good one mate 🤜🤛😁

That’s a mega start to the season Elroy, fantastic fishing mate. A massive well done. A 25kg anywhere is a big fish, and I know it’s a big one for Holland. Awesome stuff mate 🙌

Another informative enjoyable video Simon and what fantastic catches to end your winter campaign. The looking after yourself section is something that concerns us all . When we are young we think we are indestructible but as you get older you unfortunately find that’s not the case . Without good health your whole lifestyle has to change so keeping active is imperative my friend. Warmer weather on the horizon for all us anglers and the carp pooch as well 😊. Please continue to keep us entertained when time allows 👍👍👍

Great video Simon and well done on the fish. Important message re health & fitness as you say. I am 51 now and always walked the dogs & cycled 50+ miles per week. Since turning 50 I have felt my age at times so even more important to keep healthy. Diet important too to help recovery. As I say, great message to share. All the best mate. 👍

The korda 15lb .4 and is a pig after 27 wraps for me with 3oz leads but thats also experience lacking aswell. Just switched to some .32 I think it is and my standard chuck at my regular saw me in a tree....comlletley forgot I'd swapped and I seriously underestimated the difference after a few years on the same stuff. Really flies lol

As a registered nurse and carp angler, i have for years seen the need for health to be brought to the forefront of the sport. A someone like Simon doing it might benefit the rest of us. And if you think that heart attacks are the territory of sixty year olds, then think again. When i worked in coronary care 30+ was not unusual. One man who had arrested and was in need of some health advice, was given the opportunity to watch a video to help him develop a better lifestyle, he could not believe the video was for him, stating "Are you having a laugh, i don't need this i'm only 35" i looked at the scorch marks and singed hair on his chest where we had used the defibrillator, and wondered how long before we had to do it again, and if he would survive. At that time only 14% of arrests witnessed in a medical environment survived, many of those would never be the same again, not physically or mentally, and some would die. Yes diet is important, and eating out of a frying pan bankside is not the way to go. But having sausages, bacon and fried eggs is ok, BUT YOU MUST EXERCISE OFTEN. No need to do a marathon, but little and often is far better than not at all. Anglers in leotards have more fun than anglers in boxes.
