I really wanted to buy a Corvette and walked into not one, but three dealerships. In one of them I was quite literally shown a Camaro and then shown the door. On another I was allowed to look at a brochure, at the salesmans desk. I walked into a Porsche dealership with two weeks of beard, old jeans and a t-shirt and drove half a dozen cars. Bought one. It was so easy and the service has been great. GM just does not have the infrastructure to sell or service their awesome Corvette. Sad but true.

Justin Walters wow it's been a year since I posted on here! As my picture suggests I have gone with an Audi R8 v8 and may I add it is a fantastic car with a tubi exhaust (epic) and manual gear box. The f type quickly lost ground on its competition in my eyes for reasons you mentioned. I wanted something a bit more driver focused. I decided against the Cayman s as I really wanted the gts (gt4 would be nice :D) which was out of my price range. I also couldn't deny a nice big NA V8 before I possibly join the forced induction crew (997 turbo manual transmission).

Recently I was browsing around a Porsche dealership in a dreamstate where I saw 5 Caymans in 5 different colours. The 3 that stood out the most to me were the Sapphire Blue, Agate Grey and Rhodium Silver, with light Pebble Grey interiors. Out of those 3 it would be between the Sapphire Blue and Rhodium Silver which both show the Cayman's lines really well without being too in yer face, but they're way too expensive. A new, (almost fully loaded), Cayman is £65-£70K ($109-$117K.) Lovely looking car though, and if I was in the market for a small 2 seater sportscar it would be a very tough choice between the Cayman S and the Jaguar F Type Coupe, which is as equally gorgeous in the metal.

Honestly, I was never a big Porsche fan, but I rented a standard Boxster with manual transmission (mainly because it was the only sporty car to rent nearby) for a weekend and I my only complain was indeed the steering feel. It was precise and everything but somehow the steering in my good old 323i feels more alive. Yes, I would love to buy something more hardcore one day, but then I probably wouldn't want to take a car like an Elise on a long trip to the alps, where I had to use motorways and drive in bad weather conditions. So, as I favour coupés over convertibles, I really can't think of anything that would compare to a Cayman on the current market. Especially since the looks are just right.

@@stu4181 Not going to argue the point as a Boxster S owner but there is a market for the more GT oriented 911 and it does have a back seat to store a few more easy to grab essentials while touring or commuting. Maybe even a pup or two. I see a market for both cars and not a pissing match between them. Porsche never wanted these cars to compete with each other. They were kind enough to build them both for us to enjoy. I'm looking to get a Cayman S because I just like the way they look. But I love the top down experience in the Boxster. I think that is the hardest decision for me.
@stu41814 жыл бұрын
GS Riders of Velocity Cycles. Yes re reading my comment it was a bit more flippant than my usual ones. I honestly believe Porsche has held the cayman/boxster back for years as it knows it’s the better sports car. The 911 ok is a better GT but surely there are better options for a GT car either a panamera so you have some useable rear seats or another manufacturer maybe an m5 if you can stomach the depreciation. ( a member of the car club I’m in reported getting a 6 month old m5 comp 3k miles on it for 60k which seems great value for that much car compared to a 911 c4 ? Understand the boxster vs cayman dilemma I had it recently myself, the ease of cleaning a hard top and the slightly sharper chassis won out for me. I have just come out of an original z4 though so had done the soft top thing recently. So That could be a factor.... A friend taking me out through tunnels in a 981 GTS cayman got me into Porsche’s in the first place!

All of you who are saying that the c7's engine uses "old technology", you have no idea what you are looking at. The goal with any motor is not simply horsepower/disp., but rather more horsepower, less weight, a lower center of gravity, less overall size, and on top of all of this you need durability, and easy maintenance. The small block motors GM produces are famous for these last two points. I suggest you educate yourself and read up on the new motor before saying they could've done better.
