Is Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles really unbeatable? We break down the physics behind her signature move.
Less than halfway through her first Olympics, Simone Biles is already a legend USA gymnast. She is not merely better than any other in female gymnastics right now. She is quite possibly the best female gymnast ever-dominating on the beam, floor and vault. Watch Simone Biles on video and see she does more complicated tricks and has nearly flawless execution, and she already has a move named after her.

I remember growing up as a kid in an urban neighborhood we used to flip for fun. I wish somebody would have steered some of us in this direction because we only knew about football, baseball, and basketball. We had some truly incredible boys out there. I remember one kid could walk up trees and flip off them like it was breathing. I could do 15 back flips in a row, twist, summers, half twist, and this is all in the grass. I think I'm going to try to get the schools in my community to bring in gymnastics and swimming.

People need to stop criticizing Biles for having the good sense to recognize when her brain wasn't working right. That's what happened. It's the brain's/body's reaction to enormous stress. Her brain effectively 'shut down' so that she couldn't judge her spatial position. And that is very dangerous. There is a very informative interview with an expert consultant (I think I saw it on CNN or the NY Times...who does not currently work with Biles) that explains what happened. He said he could see it happening to her in her previous performances before her final vault. He could tell she was actually going through the air with no knowledge of where she was in her space, and therefore, she had no way of knowing where or how to land. It doesn't happen to everybody because everybody is different. It is not a matter of her 'chickening out' or being unprofessional. She showed good judgement. One day, the Olympics will be a thing of the past for her (like all Olympiads) and being safe and not breaking your back or neck during a landing/fall is more important than a piece of metal hung around your neck. GOAT with nothig to prove.

MeryLand how is cheating the system incredible🤷🏻‍♂️ all she does is choose routines that she knows that she can’t do cleanly but that start off with such an insane starting score that she can screw up 3 or 4 times and still win over people who did their routine cleanly (which I thought was supposed to be the point🤷🏻‍♂️) all this is going to lead to is people starting too do crap that they know they can’t safely do in order too attempt to have a chance... in my opinion she should have been disqualified for doing this MANY times including in the olympics... all she is basically doing is cheating the system and their is nothing impressive about that🤷🏻‍♂️

IKR. She is able to pick up speed because she is short. Maybe in her school days, she may have hated how short she was. I just don't know who it is that told her that her weakness is actually her strongest suit or what insecurities she went through. Being short and tiny is not terrible nor is being tall is great. PLUS, she is strong physically and mentally. Man the human body and its love/hate wonders.

BuLL eTZ uhm... in case you haven’t realized she hasn’t achieved anything outside of cheating a system... all she does is choose a routine that starts off with such an incredibly high starting score that she can screw up 3 or 4 times (which she normally does if not more) and because of her starting score even the ones who completely perfectly clean runs (which is what I thought was the whole point🤷🏻‍♂️) stand no chance in catching her... all this is going too do is lead to more people doing routines that they know they can’t do cleanly or safely just in hopes of keeping up with her... she should have already been disqualified for this multiple times (and yes even in the olympics)

Simone is not only brilliant, but she's also a beautiful person it seems. I've listened to her interviews & watched her reaction when she was beaten on the beam. She was gracious & had a big smile as usual. America is torn with racism at the moment from both white & black & I say that as an Irish guy looking from the outside. I pray that people like Simone can use her influence & fame for good, not to use her platform for blame or to take sides. I know she won't, she is a credit to her family & is the face of America I want to see.. She can be a truly Great American & most importantly, a great human being.

+Adrienne Gurge -no. people have to say things to continue to propetuate racism. they need it to justify their own miserable, sad existence. it will always be like this because it always has been. I was reared to feel sorry for people who are racist because it meant that they live in fear. fear that all their lives they have been told that they are superior only to find out they're not. that realization had to have come as a shock. these people must always try to downplay any and every achievement of the people they hate. I refuse to feed into it or to let it keep me from doing what I want to do. sad, isn't it

Maybe it's called the Biles not only after her, but because bile is basically puke and I would puke if I spun through the air like that. She is awesome.

They name a move after you when you are the first to do it in International competition, The Phillips (after my teammate), & the Patterson (Carly Patterson's dismount on beam in the London Olympics), my cousin. I'm a former Elite gymnast/coach/choreographer, you can look up the names of common gymnastics skills today & see who they are named after....usually Russian gymnasts, why the names are so difficult to spell, & they are the gymnasts who originally performed the move in International competition.

+Meg Life naw it's a term we created after African American women where 1. Disrespected for doing things other people do 2. We need more young African Americans to have good role models because as so many people like to point out there where none the term black girl magic and black magic began to be associated with black people. You can have a white girl magic but it really doesn't do anything because there are SO many white male and female role models. It's not a political term more is it a term to draw our hate

Simone Biles Is Incredible. I'm speechless.. She has Super Human aerial dynamic capabilities, that's just constantly have you in shock and awe..it looks so easy how she soars and rips the gravity turn and twisting in the air, but you know how extremely difficult it is for the average or even above average person to do. She is an amazing person to watch in sports today. I never watched the Olympics, let alone gymnastics until I seen this young lady in action. She is sooooooo Amazing!! What a God given Talent she has...I wish her nothing but continues success..She worked very hard for and deserves it more than anyone can imagine..😃😀😉☺
