Good point, well made Simon, although having been here just 12 months this week it looks like the Barn Owl is going to be seasonal (late Summer and Autumn) as the farmer grazed sheep for a couple of months on the field where they hunt this Winter and although the sheep have now gone the grass is short and the Owls haven’t returned to it yet. Your quite welcome to come and have a look next time they’re showing well and all these restrictions are over. Stay Safe.

Hi Simon, I've had the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 lens for about 18 months now and it's a cracking lens for the price, particularly with its near-macro capability of focus down to under 1 metre. I've used it a lot for damselfly shots and suchlike. Can't wait for part 2.
@simoneardley4 жыл бұрын
Nice one Alasdair, really looking forward to getting out and giving this lens a good going over. 👍🏼📷

What a great spot and set up you have created there Simon. Looking forward to part 2. Got the Jack Pyke Rannoch btw. Quality product which I'm very pleased with. Only thing I don't like is the zip. I find it far too fiddly so use the poppers instead. Puzzled by you using the 70-200. Would have thought the 150-600 would have given you all the flexibility you would need although the F4 max aperature could be handy in low winter light I suppose.
@simoneardley4 жыл бұрын
I've only just got the lens Dave so wanted to give it a run out. Also the Jays can drop in early so I wanted all the light gathering capabilities that the 2.8 has to offer. Nice sometimes to have a wider habitat shot as well 👍🏼📷👀

Looking fwd to part 2 Simon, every days a school day. Didn’t know the Jays were a bit partial to a acorn. 👍
@simoneardley4 жыл бұрын
Always learning eh Gordon. Jays can bury up to 5000 acorns in a season and they've been attributed to assisting in the spread of the Oak tree far up into the Northern Hemisphere due to their gathering activities!! They bury them is a cache and then go back to them in leaner times. Some slip through the net and emerge into saplings.

Great channel, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. Sorry for being a bit thick, but what is the use of the plant pots on the shutters to your hide, hope you mind me asking?
@simoneardley3 жыл бұрын
Its a fair question Marcus. The pots are meant to look like lens hoods so that the birds get used to that shape when the hide is not in use. When the hide is being used it just looks the same to them even though its your camera poking out !!

@simoneardley4 жыл бұрын
Hi John, ive only just got the lens so I haven't had chance to have a good do with it yet. Its the Tamron f2.8 70-200 DI VC. It has a great write up and really good value compared to the Nikon and Sigma equivelants. Up to now i think its great, tack sharp, silent and very fast.👍🏼📷

Hi, I'm fairly new to your channel. May I ask, do you own or rent that land? I have some spare money and was considering purchasing a small patch of land purely for photography. Is it expensive to buy or would I be better off renting? Thanks.
@simoneardley4 жыл бұрын
Alright Andy, I don't own it but it belongs to a family member. I don't pay any rent either, if I had the means I'd definitely buy my own patch without a doubt as long as it was the right location etc. It's surprising with some clever planting etc what species you can encourage. Good luck with your decision 👍

Snow, what's snow?
@Eigil_Skovgaard4 жыл бұрын
Why have you chosen a horizontal hide? I imagine it must be difficult when vlogging and also uncomfortable for long watches. With a more vertical model you can be sitting on a distance from the ground and even keep your nice warm boots on. I think the size against the background if you think of the projection from 30 feet up would be about the same, i.e. not more eye catching.
@simoneardley4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Eigil, I havent used this hide much and I wanted to try it and get a nice low down angle. Granted its uncomfortable but its a great profile and allows you to get really close to your subjects.
@Eigil_Skovgaard4 жыл бұрын
@@simoneardley Hey Simon, I wrote this comment - I think - before I commented on the Modal V2, which I am still somewhat hooked on. Your garden presentation was very good. I will add to my earlier comment on the low horizontal version, that I did observe a heavily blurred foreground in your otherwise impressive pictures - as from grass and leaves you can't exclude lying that low and with the subject close to the grown too. Btw, since last time we spoke I have repeated my test-question to Tragopan - still without any kind of reaction. A harmful policy for business in my opinion. Not yours of course but Tragopan's.
