Very nice shots and footage. First rule of photography, to get the shots - bad or good - we have to show up. Not gorse but here on Vancouver Island we have a similar plant called Scots Broom. It’s invasive and not native to the island and a nasty problem - it’s everywhere. An idiot British army captain, Walter Grant, introduced it to his garden in the mid-1800s. Since then it’s spread over the entire island, parts of the lower mainland and into Washington State. It blooms through May-June and the pollen drives those with allergies, like my son, completely crazy.

We have the same problem over here with Himalayan Balsalm. Its a bloody nightmare. Thanks for the follow Brian 👊🏼

Congratulations Grandad ! "It's all about perspective" - love it !! Some great shots in horrible conditions. Over in my part of the world we have quite a lot of eider around the coast and they aren't usually that timid of humans - they'll let you get quite close without the need for low-viz and this time last year I was taking them from less than 25 feet on Loch Fleet.

A great selection of birds there Simon, I would be happy with that. I love watching shore birds stretch as well, so comical! Do you find vibram soles to be slippy on the rocks? I have. decent pair of walking boots, but any rocks which are remotely rounded by footfall/weather and I have to tread very carefully, i believe the soles are made more for longevity than traction/grip
@simoneardley Жыл бұрын
I find the Vibrams are as good as can be expected on wet slippery rocks. I think with most footwear on this terrain youve got to have your wits about you 👍🏼

Simon - honest question. Just starting my wildlife photography business. I want to move up from my Canon 100-400 Is USM II with 1.4 x converter. In your opinion, what would be a better move - a 100 - 500 ISM US ii or a 300mm f2.8 IS USM . Thanks. Really value your opinion.

@@simoneardley I shifted here where I live with my new wife right on the border in Newry. My country of origin is New Zealand and im 64 years young. I had never been out of New Zealand until I shifted here two years ago. I thought New Zealand had loads of windy and wet days but this place is in its own class lol The weather here is not extreme like it often is in New Zealand, it's just constant with heavy cloud most days of the year. I would not say it rains here often, most of the time its just drizzle, but it drizzles day after day after day for month after month lol I found it a real challenge to shoot in such low light conditions most of the time. But you know what? I now prefer low light over cast days to blazing sunny days as you can keep shooting all day long and we have wonderful noise reduction proggies out there now to help us. I also think we get the best colour from our wee birdies in subdued light. It's just getting a fast enough shutter speed for those twitchy birds that never sit still. I have learned to love it here with its crappy weather and I have so many new bird species to still photograph before my card is full, my battery flat and I run out of time. I just need two of me lol
