Very interesting. I think when people talk about "synthesizers", they rarely know the difference between these two different types.

The process of recording sound stored in the form of thousands of individual measurements each at a discrete interval of time called sampling or synthesizing

If we load the sine wave sample to the sampler and loop it would it be a partly sample-based synthesis or partly wavetable?
@SimonHutchinson4 жыл бұрын
Great question. That's an example of how these categories aren't perfect, and there's a lot of grey areas! Is that a sample of a wavetable? To me, the goal of these categories isn't the categorization itself. The goal to understand the different techniques so we can effectively design our own sounds.

@@SimonHutchinson agree. My question was obviously metaphysical but it lets me to comprehend the subject more broadly)

Wave table syntheses is something very clever because you only use short cycle samples and loop them indefinitely to create long samples you could create even more interesting effects by fake in or fade out a sound to add more realism to it,to slow down the speed you could use hq time stretching to avoid metalic sound and you can only change the pitch of a sound,so instead of usung thousands of samples recorded at different frequencies,different speeds etc,,, you can just use 1 single cycle sample or a short sample and do everything with it what you want😁

Is wavetable synthesis the same thing as granual synthesis?
@SimonHutchinson3 жыл бұрын
Granular is a bit different, but not unrelated. I’ve got plans for a video on that sometime, but it might be a little while as I wrap up some other things. More soon!
