very excited that Mike Portnoy is coming back home. But very huge kudos to the Mike Mangini, he's such a beast in the kit and such a class act. And I'm glad he's the one who join DT, not sure if other drummers can cope with what he has to endure with all the mockery and disrespect he got from some fans. Not many bands can say they’ve had two legendary drummers.

I am so happy you made this video, you are one of the people I definitely wanted to hear these thoughts from given how much I know DT is an influence. Wish I could video reply back to some of these thoughts. Agreed yesterday was the biggest day in music history for me…since Portnoy left. Agree all thoughts on Mangini. And agree I am so excited for the next album and the impact Portnoy’s sound and direction will have. What a day.

I have nothing to add, every word you said is exactly what I think, and probably wast majority of DT fans. Been one since 1992 and Images and Words. When I heard that, they instantly became my favorite band. I was just blown away 🤯 When Mike left, I was sad, angry and disappointed. Never thought we will live to see this day. When I saw the news, I honestly thought it is a joke. It took me few moments to connect the dots and realize this is real. Life is really full of surprises, sometimes even of positive ones, like this one 😁 Can't wait to see them live together again. When it comes to new album, I don't know what to expect, I just hope I'm not expecting too much. But, another Images and Words type of album would be just fine 😁😂

I don't know what's happen. Money? Recognition? Acceptance as a real DT member? What I know is Mangini is two levels above Portnoy as a drummer. Dream theater on Mancini era are a full grown band. They're all on fire kissing the perfection. Songs like "the alien" " barstool warrier" "awaken the master" "invisibile monster" "sleeping giant"and many more make them a band on their own league. It's sad seeing Mangini go.

I totally agree 100 percent. I will miss Mangini so much - not only his drumming, but also his personality - a person who is more interested in the band sounding good than being his own show on stage. Also, I thought it was a total lack of integrity from the other band members in DT to treat Mangini that way.

It's not going to be a walk in the park for Portnoy, taking Mangini's seat :p Mangini is way more technical and overall a better drummer even if Portnoy is a beast. But that doesn't matter, it's going to take them to another direction which is great. I don't like when bands do the same stuff for 30 years and DT has always managed to sound new to me.

What a shock announcement! Let's hope this next album is a true "Sweet 16" in the drums, especially. Only announcement I could see being an equal or bigger shock would be "Dave Mustaine returns to Metallica"

I think A View From the Top of the World is among their very best albums. I generally prefer the Mangini era songs, buuuuut on those albums his drums sound like they were stuck inside a padded suitcase on a shelf in the next room over, and the cymbals are way too low in the mix.

Uber excited for Portnoy's return! I know it would be seen as a downgrade by most but I always think it'd be cool to have a DT album with Moore on keys again especially after chroma keys, OSI, etc. Mabye they could do a the Yes thing and just get everyone together for an album, even Derek and Charlie... Sorry I'm fanboying too hard now I'll go back to lurking 😅

If James were to in any sort of way leave Metallica and never come back, Metallica would cease to exist. He's such an essential piece to the band, that it wouldn't be able to recover without him.

I don’t follow drama much, but I hope this means that the group can get along, because from what I understood, there were personality clashes. I personally really like Mangini and I hope he gets to go somewhere else cool.

Aside from Portnoy's personality, Mangini's parts will not ever be recreated unless you have Mangini play them. DT just took 10 steps back. Advice; never ever look through the rose-colored glasses. Taking an Ex back will just start the cycle all over again. However, I do understand, the "Buddy" aspect of their decision. Mangini is a first call Drummer and he'll be fine. Portnoy has just been given his last chance. Cheers 🍻

But DT did survive without Mike, big KUDOS to Mr. Mangini, even though I like Portnoy more he has much more charisma and is the heart and soul of DT!

I understand all the comments here but this decision was about BUSINESS and that's all. The band started having trouble selling concert tickets since the end if the pandemic. This will make DT concert ticket sales to SKYROCKET.

I would argue that the band are more concerned with producing the music they want to with the right people, and I'd be very surprised if they'd let making money dictate lineup change. I'm not saying this doesn't ever happen, but with the integrity of DT as musicians, I would imagine they'd rather be dropped by their label than kick members out because the label wants more money.@@srobbins1973
@srobbins1973 Жыл бұрын
@@SimonLoveridge the band members only make significant $$$ from touring these days, not selling records. So what the label wants is irrelevant here. And yes, they're great musicians but they're solid, stable people and smart businessmen too. Having seen the band over 20 times in the last 31 years, and seeing them sell out the Beacon Theater on back to back nights in 2002 then play to a half-filled Beacon Theater in 2022 with Mangini, this was a no-brainer from a business standpoint.

Let's hope Portnoy never reproduces Mangini's compositions. Lock up the works and throw the key away. The band just took a atep backwards. He left. He'll leave again. What a joke.
