Am 58 retiring next year but the thought of retirement gives me weakness. I am a PhD trying to set up a biotech company. It is a rough and risky sector, because so much investment (money & time) is required to just reach a proof of concept. Maybe I am getting ahead of myself, but I really enjoy watching videos like this to get a taste of what's out there, beyond science. 😊 I fully agree a co-founder is necessary. My feeling tells me a great combination is having one very creative founder, and one very goal oriented one. This way you can filter and execute on great ideas that will form the core of your business.

Just curious, do you think that computer science has applications in a biotech company? Would it be more on the biological computation side or possibly cybersecurity? I am a 17 year old hoping to get into the tech industry but also considering business applications for a cs degree.

@@Falcon8856 cybersecurity is always relevant, especially because lots of biotech works with really sensitive data. Also, the fields of computational biology / computational protein engineering / protein structure prediction / computational drug design / biological data analysis and statistics / genomics / proteomics / transcriptomics and many more are huge, and increasingly depend on heavy computation :) My thesis for example was in computational design of new proteins (with possible diagmostic / biopharmaceutical uses). However, my focus was not very IT-oriented as I had a background in chemistry. Best of luck!

I think you’re spot on - you need one person who does a lot of the talking and vision casting, idea generation, and another who loves building systems and implementing those ideas, clarifying and challenging the idea leader. My best friend is the former while I’m the latter, and we’d start something if we lived in the same place still and I wasn’t married

Had one, between taxes and filing and incorporating... difference of ideas and approach, it leads to a lot of trouble and heartache if you care. Two rules, nothing is your baby with business, and always have a contract in your favor. People change, never underestimate egos and greed.

bro that is such a good point, D students are used to failing so they take more risks while A students are so scared of failing that they never take risks and end up working a 9-5 job since it's safer than starting your own business and have the possibility of it failing

A students are by the book students, they are good at being obedient and looking for praise from teachers by doing what they expect from them. Not saying that all D students are smart, by usually students that are grounded in reality and applicability of their knowledge aren't the ones with best grades

This is sooooo true!!! I dropped out of school at 15/16, no GCSE’s, but was able to do every job I’ve ever wanted to try and now self employed! I definitely believe that because I truly had nothing to loose, especially in terms of 0 qualifications! I’m 25 now !

I always think about how my service could help others & what would some area of concerns my customer would have. I'm a 15 year old Pakistani and im starting a small business in a couple of days. It's winter and people are buying dry fruits so i plan to sell packets of mixed dry fruits. I got 3000 PKR ($10.7) from my mother to start. I wanna say this: people who say you can start earning without any money are either lying or the work is extremely hard. Business is about taking risks and borrowing money to test your idea is part of that. Your idea has to be good. I'm not starting blindly, i’ve asked random people for feedback to make sure the idea's legit. One more thing i will add is that shame stops a lot of people from being successful. Just because your father is rich doesn’t mean you shouldn’t work hard and face challenges. Success takes effort, time and courage. Sorry for mistakes in my english and thanks for reading.

After watching for the first 10 mins, I started to know what kind of business I wanted to do. On the next day, I decided not to oversleep and woke up 1.5 hrs earlier than usual. I did my daily routines, prepared my lunchbox and went to work happily. I might not have all the resources and strength to make a new business for now. But what I got instead was so valuable - real, genuine tips that have given me the motivation I needed to take that next step (instead of giving up). I've felt stagnant for some time in my hobby-turned-business (educating people on all things personal finance), but this video made the reasons why click into place, while providing actions to take to gain clarity. As a blind person with a brittle bone condition, I'm used to life knocking me down, but it also comes with an extreme version of imposter syndrome; I have a LOT of knowledge, but my self confidence has always been fairly low. I recently joined my family’s business with the intention to grow it to and beyond its former size. My mom went to school with the guy who started it, was the first person to join, and ended up buying the business. It was highly profitable at one point, until the 2008 recession. Then it recovered, then due to other factors in life and the covid restrictions, it shrunk again. I’m trying to learn and work as hard as I can to get it booming again.

I live in Bangladesh, here anything I try to do, I WILL run into errors, they dont even have paypal or stripe, there's no way for teenagers to earn money here unlike in western countries. I really like doing dropshipping, I enjoy it alot, I enjoy the process, I could spend all day studying on this topic, but you know at the end of the day when I try to put it into action nothing really works out for me. Im trying to set up a payment method? Oh paypal and stripe isn't supported in my country. Tryna buy a Shopify subscription? Oh no the payment doesn't go through even though the card is COMPLETELY FINE. Permits, foundations, electrical, plumbing, insulation, inspection, HVAC, natural gas lines. It would be extremely difficult to operate a company like that. You basically be teaching everyone every trade which is next to impossible. Otherwise I'd love that but in the modern world I don't think it's realistic

This is such a powerful mind shift not only for entrepreneurship but life in general. As an A student myself, I always gave people control by letting them define what success should mean to me. I've never embraced failure and, maybe because of that, I haven't been able to make much money as an adult. I'm behind most of my peers in the race the're all running. I am from Hong Kong and I found this video better then my business classes in college, the teachers just yap about nonsense that don’t even matter, this video may be the best business video on KZbin that is worth years of knowledge in just 2.5 hours. Best video ever 11/10

Honestly there's so much shit on KZbin. Most free stuff I see is just top-of-funnel bs used to sell courses. It's refreshing to see no nonsense long form content like this. Love it. Thank you.
