The first line at the Eiffel Tower actually doesn't require a ticket, it's just a security check. You went to the special line for those with an online ticket, that's why they asked about it :)

5 years previous to this you could sneak up, today is literally is sealed off with a glass wall. Although, it is much nicer under it now, a green garden and pond. I've never walked up, got a lift up 3 times. The top was closed in lockdown, but middle floor open. Best 4 days in Paris was lockdown .

1) when the hotel ask for your room number for breakfast they also always ask for the surname of whoever booked the room? 2) how do you know that the room you went in was people who have checked out? How do you know that room wasn’t someone’s who has just went out for the day and the maid was cleaning it?

Also the Maid doesn't know if they left for day or not, but there was no bags/luggage and personal belongings so there for you can assume that the people who stayed in that particular room he randomly chose left recently (that morning) Also, they will only ask for the surname of the person who stayed in the room at breakfast/food hall* if they don't have a list at the door or something to suggest that that room number has guests staying in it, for instance - if he said 354 and there was someone in it they would not ask him for his surname unless there was children or multiple people in room with different surnames, or if there wasn't then their list would either not be up to date and be his first breakfast/morning their or actually no one in room which then they would ask but he said he just arrived etc...
