It used to take me forever to loop up a cycle. Nobody told me there were ways to simplify it!
Here's 2 ways to animate traditional animation cycles. Great for 2DFX, you could easily take this and animate a fire cycle, or smoke cycle with a lot less stress!

Amazing what you can get with rising bubbles thru reeds of grass, I never though of that as a starting point. This reminds me a lot of sinewave transformations but with the added control over the amplitude across the period of the wave.

FX animation is definitely an art meets science. You can really think of a lot of fx as wave forms, and even a rudimentary understanding of fluid dynamics is incredibly useful.

woahhhh I was sold at the beginning with the line alone but the bubbles are a REALLY cool technique!! Thank you for these. I never would've thought of them myself!!

I've got a few similar methods for doing these effects, but I hadn't thought of using the basic guide layers, like they were individual particles. The trick with the guide layers seems like the next step to take things a step further. (But MAN this is also reminding me that I wish Toon Boom had a way to like, pre-compose loops. That's one thing I miss about flash, was nested graphic symbols and their robust playback options.)

My method of pre-looping is just pasting it out 500 frames lol. Not fancy but it works.

Could you you just open a new file then have it just be that loop. Partner peg and save it. Then you could drag it into other files and be a ready to go loop.

So basically is the same as flash just have to open another file and drag. Thanks for your uploads btw! I have gone through everyone while I animate, it's been a huge help!

You could even add a point that loops left to right and up and down so your end isn't as fixed. Extremely helpful tutorial, thanks!

You can animate lines along the lines, or lines across forms. It's really fun to see how far you can go with it.

Okay short question and i dont know if you even still read these comments but : i'm scratching my head about how you duplicated and offset the bubble going up exactly to come to the end result im probably a bit dumb here but how did you do it 😥?

I wonder if you may have a tip for me - I still get very confused how to make something that more freehand truly "cycle" - I find no matter what I do I end up with a section at the beginning or end of the animation that has nothing going on and I end up endlessly drawing bubbles to try and make it link - I think theres something I'm not understanding.

My method is to space out the drawings like I do in the video, then start different parts of the cycle on a different frame. So instead of always starting a part on 1, I'll start the next one on 8, then 3, then 5. Once I feel it's starting to get where I want, I'll take a little break, stretch, drink some water, then sit back and watch it on loop, looking for parts I don't like, and I can fill those in, or pull things back. Over time you learn to trust the process, and your eyes get better at seeing this kind of thing while it's in progress. But in general, standing back a bit helps. It's really easy to get hypnotized by tiny details in fx.

i have a question: At the 08:12 in the video, when i flip the bubble, they symmetry, they have same time go up, same potion. And when i draw the line, the line still the same, its not moving, its not like in the video. How can i fix this? ._.. Thank you
@StylusRumble

to offset the timing, you need to shift the drawings on the timeline. :)

If your bubbles or guides are going up, it might be that you're not cleaning up consistently around the same ones? It's hard to say without seeing what you end up with.
@Xivamart
@Xivamart 2 ай бұрын
@@StylusRumble yes i am cleaning around the same one but once I noticed it I stopped because it is same on all frames but there is an animation though (kind of rough), but there is GOOD NEWS though since it was same on all frames I just made the first frame then I disabled the bubbles layer and drew it manually following the shape like triangle or something else
