This helped me realize why I wasn't improving much in animation, when I started I tried to go from a bouncing ball to acting in animation, this caused me to have little improvement since I first started in 2020. Now I'm going back and starting from the beginning and now I'm gradually building up knowledge by doing these exercises and im actually improving. Advice: don't rush it.

Just a little suggestion for the Pendulum Animation. Don't put an IB frame on the Middle of the Arc. It causes a little Jarring motion when drawn there (noticeable when the frames are Cleaned-up and colored). It's an old Animation trick. You either put it in slightly to the left or right of the middle, depending on your timing and direction.

These exercises are literally more detailed than the ones we had my college’s 2D animation class (though the professor did suddenly retire a few weeks in, so that certainly didn’t help…) I’m definitely gonna be looking through your KZbin videos and checking out your lessons on your personal website. Idk how much time I have but I’d really like to try some of these out. Thank you so much for posting them!

To be an absolute nerd here- Gravity is quadratic, so the amount a falling object goes down between frames is like this: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9... And the reverse for something going up. If the object has an initial velocity up or down, you just add that to each frame. Say it goes down with an initial velocity of 10 per frame. Then between each frame it goes down by: 11, 13, 15, 17, 19...

In the 2nd exercise, it should be noted that, to easier obtain proper _spacing_ in the "side perspective", vertical construction lines can be bridged from the edges of each ball of the "top perspective"... (and then, from this point, increase/decrease the size of the balls according to depth perception). ...In other words, basically..... move all the balls from the "top view" drawing down to the "side view" drawing. This idea can be found on page 86 in Richard Williams "Animator's Survival Kit".

Every time I see the bouncing ball animation exercise I always have to comment about my university teacher for animation. Who told us in our first lesson. "I'm not going to do the bouncing ball stuff cause you could just learn that in a book, you can do it in your own time if you want" Then proceeded to teach us nothing for 3 years. Thankyou everyone who posts this stuff on youtube.

3:11 when I realize... one of the reason why a simple animation like this look really fine is because of the circle made your brains think it is moving smooth. if you try to imagine the thing without the lines you will then see that the ball is actually disappearing and reappearing every frame lol

The easiest way to make the bouncing ball perfectly accurate would be to make sure the horizontal speed stays constant. (Have it move the same horizontal distance for each frame while also following the parabolic curves.) That way the acceleration is always right. No need to eyball the distance for the next frame, just draw a bunch of equidistant vertical lines. Every intersection with the parabols marks the position for ine frame.
@ModernDayJames
@ModernDayJames 7 ай бұрын
that would be perfectly accurate but accurate doesn't equal aesthetic . A little exaggerated slow in slow out towards the top of the arc looks better in my experience
