Simple DIY Curved Cut in Patio Pavers with HarborFreights Grinder / Masonry Blades

Made this video as I DIY'd my patio last year, but couldn't work out how to cheaply and simply make curved cuts in my pavers. Thanks to Harbor Freights laborday sale and other coupons I couldn't resisit picking up a cheap grinder ($19.99 ) and 10 masonry cutt off blades ($7.99), and scurrying back to my yard to start cutting bricks. I prepped the patio brick using a piece of paper to determine the cut, which i transfered to the brick. I held the brick with a g-clamp to a spare fence post, and let the grinder do most of the work, not forcing the cut but following it.

Thank you! I am building a path and was incredibly stressed over how I was going to curve the bricks without selling a kidney.

Many of us come here without the know how and want to know how. This is a good vid, yet sometimes wrong blade. No big deal. We all learn. I'll be cutting some fire bricks real soon. Thanks to you and some others who have commented. I'll have all the right stuff. diamond blade, gloves, eye protection. I lay in bed wondering how I can cut curves in bricks. Got it. Thank you

Thank you for the video. It actually helped me in learning how not to cut pavers. Like you, I was only aware of the masonry blades, But in reading the comments below, and knowing that I have many cuts to make, I will be purchasing 2 Turbo diamond blades, one for the skillsaw and the other for the grinders. Again, thanks for sharing your experience... There is never a perfect way to do things. It all depends on style, budget, needs, and priority.

Fill a container with sand, put brick on sand, wiggle it a bit so it stays firm, then cut.

On the right track, but using the wrong blade. Use a concrete blade and it will go much faster and cleaner.

What patience... Hope you don't have too many to cut... Or you have all summer to do it! A diamond balde and wet saw would be so much easier... Oh yes, and a mask and protective glasses wouldn't hurt either.

Nice cut ! But makes me nervous using that type of blade it could break and pieces of the blade could fly everywhere and impale you

So, this was why you buy a diamond blade and water it while you go. Takes abut 10-15 seconds with right blade.

Be careful of wearing the blades down too thin they will explode sending fragments of disc flying around and sometimes impaling objects or people. Steel diamond blades work the best and last a lot longer too... stay safe👍✌

No,No,No,Use a Diamond blade,and if you have lots of cuts,buy it from a masonary supplier,not a home improvement house.Expect to pay $35 to$70,depending on how many cuts you have,the more expensive blades last much longer.Trust me on this.

So dangerous,your wearing out the sides of the cutting disc which can make the disc shatter. Bad method, do not do this.

How NOT to cut a curve with a grinder more like, no gloves, one had and you are digging that blade in and asking for it to shatter into little bits and kill you. You need a diamond blade and please don't ever use an angle grinder like that, beyond dangerous

I normally just buy the Dewalt diamond blade for around $10, they work well. If the pavers are pretty thick, cut down as far as you can, finish with wide chisel and hammer, splits apart easy. This is the blade. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002Q8TIC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Do you cut from either way up?
@carlfxy
@carlfxy 6 жыл бұрын
Well you should always cut away from yourself and your hands, also wear a pair of leather work gloves. Cut slow and remember the direction the blade is moving, as it has a tendency to walk through the cut and often kicks out of the cut and you do not want that kicking towards you. So yes cut either way up as long as it is away from you .

first off don't take a chisel to your brick LOL secondly you only need to cut no less than 25% of the brick on each side and snap it off like you were snapping drywall then Vice up that brick with the curved side exposed so you can get the angle grinder add it at such an angle that you can just sweep off the rough Edge and use a diamond blade wear a mask and you're looking at about a minute per brick for the time it takes two lock in place cut two sides snap and clean off the rough part.

Thanks for the useful comment, yep I've been stupid over time not using masks for any of my projects. I would encourage others to do so ...
@blurybury
@blurybury 7 жыл бұрын
Carl Fxy I admit if I'm working outside in a wide open area like street side and am continuously spraying down my work while using a fan to blow everything in a different direction I care not to wear a mask LOL but if I detect any silica in the air I'm breathing in then I'll either adjust my set-up or wear a mask. I don't think a tiny bit will hurt as we breath all sorts of junk in but even a tiny bit on a regular even daily basis can be a set-up for some doctor visits in the future. I'm usually more concerned with loosing appendages or getting something in my eyes so proper eye protection and gloves are a must. They are all important but we often are either lazy or in a hurry right? I think not wearing eye protection is the worse thing anyone can do.
