Hand 4, when you say that your bidding was fine, but that sometimes it just doesn't work out. I think what I always remind myself is that you will always be bidding into something that is uncertain, and that to bid only what you can guarantee is going to be successful, is to spurn all the opportunities of getting into winning positions that could not be guaranteed in advance. It's like supermarkets - there's no doubt that they could introduce systems that would guarantee to eradicate the opportunities for shoplifting, but to do so would involve introducing costs that would make them uneconomic compared to competitors who had followed a more pragmatic and cost-optimal approach.
