Back in time 80s I was a hacker big time 2021 retook up golf with completely new outfit in clubs. Man what a difference it made

I watched a KZbin match, Grant Horvat vs Bryson. Grant got to buy $200 thrift store clubs for Bryson to play. He picked the 2002 Hogan irons that I’M STILL PLAYING. I saw that as a sign that I need new irons 😀. Great video Mark. Excellent advice.

He picked those Hogans probably because they are well made! I recently dusted off my back up set of 1999 Hogan Apex Plus irons. Except for typical weaker lofts and really don’t see much difference to the Callaway Xhot 2 pro irons I played for @7 years.

No,,,that's a sign to keep them!! I game the Apex Edge forged from 2006 and will never change them 👍

Yeh lol. It feels like those "how much have drivers improved in 20+ years" videos are directly targeted at me.

I still play with a set of Howson Hunter irons ive had since i was about 13. Stepped away from golf for some years and now fallen back in love with it again. I feel for sure a new set would improve my game as the technology has moved on substantially. Will enjoy the experience of being custom fit also. Great video as always Mark 🏌️♀️

Thought this was a great video that rang a lot of bells with me. Played a lot as a kid, titleist tour model irons and low loft driver, but as a 40 something year old taking golf more seriously again, I replaced my irons to game improvement. Then last year for my 50th, I treated myself to a woods fitting. There is no need to make the game even harder than it already is. Think your way through your bag for the golf and courses you play. Getting rid of 4 and 5 irons probably my next move.

I had a 13* 3 fairway wood in the bag. Every swing was a 50/50 chance of hitting it well or poorly. I switched to a high-launch 16* 3 fairway wood and absolutely bomb it regularly. The higher loft really helps gets the ball up in the air more. Great advice - especially for medium swing speed players like me.

Well done, the “top” end of bag has been my focus. Have a 4w, 7w, 3h, and 4h before irons start at 5i. Had a 5h but preferred the 5i. Find use for both woods and the hybrids but lots of overlap. Currently working to better define the distances and test which is also a better fairway finder at the 200 to 220 range to potentially drop one club. Or just keep them in bag since still within 14 total clubs.

Great video, definitely applicable to my game. I’ve been rebuilding my bag for the past year getting back into golf. I used to be close to scratch (never kept a real handicap) and am currently a 4.6 trying to get down to sub 3 by the end of the year. Changing some clubs out has been good, but it’s now time to get used to them all and really put in the work, thanks for the reminder. Love your content, and have watched for years!

Just got myself a new set of zx5 mk2 this year, got them fitted what a major change in my game :D. I was using 25 year old clubs as my training wheels till i started to play better.
@WesD854 ай бұрын
This is interesting. I'm considering buying the ZX5 MK2 as well. I currently play my original set of 2003 Nike irons. Would you think it's worth the cost of upgrading for performance gains?
@DjDaveVA4 ай бұрын
@WesD85 I would go through a fitting first, zx5 are amazing set of irons some guys combo them with zx4s or zx7s . If you are a 15 or under handicapper with a decent strike *don't need to be perfect* and have a little a steeper attack angle they are great. I was fitted into dg x100 shaft 1 degree upright and 1 degree weaker on my 7 and below clubs < this is the importance of fitting. My swing speed with a 7 iron is 101 mph with a spin of 7600 I have a natural high fade shot distance is 165 to 175 yards

I used to despise strong lofted irons. However, now that I'm nearing 60, the results with my traditionally lofted irons (47° PW, 31° 6-iron) got too frustrating. I was about to get fitted for a set of "players distance irons", when I remembered that I had someting similar in my basement. Enter the 12 year old Cleveland 508tt irons, which I hardly ever used, because I bought them as my exlusive "travel irons", when they were dirt cheap. And then I did not travel that much by plane to play golf. I am now so happy with them. I even use the 21° 4-iron to good effect, because most of the courses I play are pretty linksy. On the other hand, I was stoked to buy a new Cobra ("advanced technology") driver to replace my F7 from 2017, and I am less than impressed with the results on the course, even if I put the familiar shaft, which works great in the F7 into the new head. My 3 -wood is still a the Nike VR LE from 2011. I tried dozens of others, nothing comes close.

Good video, know your yardages, I had a 3h and 4h that went pretty much the same despite 4 degrees difference, I have a AW and a 50, my longest iron is a 7, then my 6H, I am a low handicap player. And my irons are “ game improvement” but my Apex DCBs have amazing feel

Playing R9s from more than a decade ago and thicker grips helped my rip them even harder than before...I do have a 2iron coming though and its Taylormade udi 2 iron 17 loft...ripper club

✳️ I still game a Taylormade Burner driver 2007 ✅ it still goes ok for distance but I feel confident over the ball instead of buying a new driver which may give me 5% to 10% more distance ✳️ I have a 2002 Callaway 7 wood and 5 wood ✅ I have changed the grips every 2 years ish ✳️ I find the type of ball makes a bigger difference than updating my equipment ✳️

I just switched from playing Callaway Razr x Tours for 12 years to Mizuno MP-33’s. I changed because the forged blades are a lot more forgiving on misshits, yeah it might sting a little but when you miss hit the newer hollow clubs you get ball bounce and I go OB way too much. The forged blades don’t allow me to smack it so far OB lol I dropped my handicap by 2 just switching

52 56 60 or 50 54 58 usually

Every 7-10 years because it takes that long for the technology to make a difference if you still care about score. Grooves wear out as well on wedges much faster as they are used 2x as much as other clubs.
@ThisLadWayne4 ай бұрын
Ive come back to golf after 15 years. And nothing has changed.. “longer. More forgiving” every year they say this. Should be twice the distance by now.. They’re the same.
