I WANT TO KNOW... What drills (if any) do you use when you are practicing your golf at the driving range / short game area? Hit me up ____________ ✍

Most recent one I stumbled across was a simple downswing thought of using the ball as a marker and ensuring that the whole lower body gets past that marker (or centre line). This was a game changer for me because i started to drop the club and arms down and inside whereas previously I was outrageously over the top with a Showaddywaddy right shoulder (watch their routine on a 1970s TOTP 😂) But like you describe in similar fashion through your drills, it is crucial that you keep the head back of that ball marker or centre line. Great drills as always Mark👍

Ball on a very short tee. Feet together but left foot in line with ball Half backswing using arms only. Try & hook the ball Look for smoothness, feel the weight of the head & get the release.

Mark, I have been following your website for a long time, but this drill is ABSOLUTELY the best I have ever tried....increased my distance about 10 yard on every iron and hybrid...love this drill and it really, really, really works!!!!!

Thanks for following along. Thanks for the comment on the drill helping. 👍

Perfect video for me. Had a lesson with a pro recently who noted i was moving my head past the ball on the downswing. Just been to the range. Extending the arms away from the body seems to kill two birds with one stone! Keep up the good work Mark.

Brilliantly simple video Mark, it is going to massively help me, it has many of the elements that are key for me to get my swing back to where is used to be. Can't thank you enough. 👌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Great vid, the part that drives it all home is how you stay relaxed and talking throughout the entire drill / swing . Most of us fall apart simply because we are not relaxed and trusting ourselves and our swing mechanics out on the course. Have a great day.

Great video, Mark. I used to use a feet together drill to stop me swaying (but have somehow forgotten it recently) and I have often noticed that I finish my best shots with a shoulder/ head tilt on my follow through, as you describe. Following some coaching, I am working on stretching away on my backswing, as I tend to crumple more there than on the follow through, so this is a very timely video for me. I am going to make this my warm up drill from now on as it fixes almost all my dodgy tendencies, and I’ll try it as pre-shot routine, too! Thanks Mark

I like that 👍🏻. I do a few drills. After warming/loosening up, I always start with the feet together drill with whatever club I’m starting off with. I’ll also do the drill when changing from different clubs - Iron to Hybrid to Driver etc. Another one to do is with the backswing. I’ll address the ball. Then begin the backswing/takeaway by “setting the wrists” i.e. moving the head of the club with the hands/wrists only. To a position where the shaft of the club is horizontal and parallel to the ground. Pause and check the alignment, then to complete the back swing, simply turn/rotate the body as you would to complete a back swing - which should then be a textbook backswing. I’ve got a few drill I do for the downswing. One I think has really helped me is after completing a correct backswing (rotating trail hip around and up ⬆️) with no lateral movement. I feel the weight shift to the inside of my trail foot. Slight shift of weight back to my lead side, commence downswing. Then consciously “feel” that my left hip is trying to match the position of my right hip - around and up ⬆️. I don’t think about my right hip at all during the downswing. This drill (when I get it right) has all but eliminated my coming over the top or out to in swings. Plus stopping the right hip thrusting too far forward impeding the downswing.

Just wanted to say thank you for this so easy to understand and wonderful drill. Tried it on the course yesterday and hit the ball so much better. Best of all stopped coming over the top and didn't hit any slices. Still a work in progress but this has got to be the best drill I have ever seen.

This might be the best single video to build the swing correctly. Thank you from New York.

Great drills ; they’re a solution to two of my problems . At the start do you have pressure on your left or right foot ?

This video is exactly what I need to see and apply into my practice sessions. A drill I have been using is place a alignment can into an upturned basket so that the tip of the can hovers about 4 inches above where I place the ball, this is in front of me where the balls are, what this does is gives me a visual aid, so I can keep my eyes focused on the cane over the ball through the swing, thus not moving my head forwards until after I've struck the ball, it really helps me to get a better strike on the ball.

Mark I love your videos and in general watch a lot of instructional videos on KZbin. Can you offer your take on why there is so much conflicting information on the platform where instruction varies so much. I would have thought golf is golf and the basics would / should be taught in the same way. Keep up the good work 👍

I noticed that your chin at impact is leading in front of your nose, which means your head is slightly tilted backwards through impact, which is paramount to proper release, correct me if I'm wrong!

Mark, on a different subject. Why can't the subject of watching the ball till it's hit be found anywhere on anyone's channel? It's so hard a subject that some youtubers advocate NOT watching the ball which seems stupid. Do you have any drills to watch the ball, because excessive head movement turning toward the target before impact is a killer. How do you stop this?
@The-OC5 күн бұрын
That's like the old David Duval type move, I'm always rather cautious that it could lead to moves off of the impact position to early.
