Its called a Mandrel. This one is a Stepped Mandrel for rings. There are larger ones for bracelets. Ring mandrels are always round. Bracelet mandrels can be round or oval shaped. You can also use these stepped mandrel for making jump rings. When you have the normal sloping mandrel, it is easy to size rings as you slide them down till they fit right. But not easy to make a ring on them as the sides are sloping. This is where the Stepped Mandrel is more convenient. The entire step is one size so it is more consistent in shaping. Useful to have both. Very nice free form ring, Matt! Love it. I'm going to try it out today. The tough part is to find a bead with a hole large enough for 18 gauge wire, heh heh.

Thanks dude, another great tut. The ring making tool is a ring "mandrel". Oh yeah, no 2 roses on the same bush are the same size, shape, or even color.

Hey Matt! I learned so many useful things from this video! I learned to think of jewelry making with a medieval attack method, that ring size does not reflect health (in most cases) and that I need to use my muscles, and good body mechanics! Thanks for making real and entertaining videos!

I like it when you show the silver wire on a dark background and the darker wire on a light background. Makes it much easier to see. This one was a little harder for me to see. It’s just that I have a contrast issue in my retina.Thank you!

Using your flat nylon jaw pliers is the perfect way to make the first inner swirl nice and tight, plus gripping the swirl to roll it the rest of the way, without making a mark on your wire.
