Simple Human Bin Lid Attachment Tutorial

For anyone who may still be having trouble after watching this video, try using hand soap on the hinges (both the lid side and the can side). I just read this tip in one of the Amazon reviews, and it worked almost immediately.

I consider myself to be tech savvy..... that said, it saddens me that I had to search online to figure out how to put on a trash can lid... .I build computers, set up networks, do vendor work for Dell and other companies but I had to Google this!! Thank you. They could have at least said "press very hard and you'll hear a click". Thought I'd break the thing but I sat on the hinge and voila lol!!

Thank you Matthew. I was getting quite exhausted trying to fit lid (and I did try your method, after examining it thoroughly; BUT I was afraid of breaking it!?) Thanks to your video - the fear left me and I was able to fit it quite easily. I cannot understand why they are not already fitted and with, say, a soft 'stopper' between pedal - that could be removed once un-packaged.

I pushed. I pulled. I sat on it. I propped it against the side of my couch so I could have a different angle. I wedged it between the wall and floor so it wouldn't go anywhere. Nope. Finally, I read Michelle G's comment and decided to prop the lid up on my head while I hugged the bin and pulled the lid toward me, into position. After 10 seconds of tugging, the first hinge popped into place. Another 15, and the other one was set. This is quite the bin!

Dude THANK YOU! Because I was able to attach it before with the help of the sticker instructions. However, I thought I knew better and later peeled off the sticker (it was getting gross even after I’ve cleaned the lid many times). Fast forward to me accidentally knocking off the lid and not remember how to re-attach it! 😅. It’s back on now thanks to you!

In the end I resorted to heating the hinge end of the lid with a hairdryer to expand the plastic. This did the trick.

I ordered from Amazon for my 93 year old Mom who lives 800 miles away from me. She was having difficulty with final steps, pressing down on the corners to get them to snap in. I found this video and now understand why. She still can't snap in the corners by herself but at least we now understand why. So frustrating Simple Human doesn't make this process simple for humans.

OMG thank you! My husband was in the dog house after he was sure he broke the trash can. It came to us assembled 3 years ago. I almost bought a new one! The assembly sticker does not have the essential close and press trick.

The story below, quick answer for the ladies I placed my left hand on the one end on the right side I put all my pressure on it, even my foot was off the ground like a handstand, but not that crazy. If you try putting your weight on the side that needs to needed to click. And when you hear the click you might laugh, like this is so easy! Love these cans! Bought a new one! Had the first 2 for 1 decade, but one of them the peddle is broken & doesn’t open well! These are great cans even survived every move (even cross country) So the first 2 were already assembled out of the box at the store.

I got the SimpleHuman 50L trash bin. This did not work for me and I struggled for a while. Try this >>> Lay the trash big down on the floor (flat side down) and make sure the lid is aligned to the henge. Press down on the trash bin wall/rim that aligns w/ the henge and BAM! it will go into place in 1-2 seconds.

This method did not work at all for me. 3-31-19. what I had to do is have it sitting in front of me, the lid up (rather resting against my head) and PULL FORWARD to get them to click. once I tried that, it took about 1 minute to work. I tried the video method for 10 minutes.

Ok. Can get lid on but it won’t stay on. Every time you step on pedal lid pops off. Lots of reviews say this. Any fix???? Or just a garbage trash bin?

Try squeezing the hinge and lid together, by placing your weight directly above it, like in the video - rather than hitting it with a hammer!
