Purchasing wood veneers can get expensive, but what's even harder is finding veneers, or even just very thin woods in any assortment of thicknesses like 1/8th 3/16th and even 1/4" (3mm, 4.5mm 6mm) and all of these are important sizes to anyone "cutting" wood with a laser etcher or laser cutter, and if you have a bandsaw, cutting thin pieces of wood seems easy, but it can be challenging, you need to consider bandsaw blades, blade sharpness and tooth offsets, who the thick the wood is you want to make, what species of wood (some are harder that others) and what sort of fence or jig you may need to accomplish this, the jig in this video is want that I made for a previous 16 inch bandsaw I sold many years ago, and decided to re-try this jig on my new 14" bandsaw to cut wider boards the "included" fence was not handling easily .. and here is that jig.

I love that cabinet material. The old cabinets in my house were particle board with oak veneer so I couldn't salvage anything. I did keep the doors because they were solid oak.

Most blades have drift new or not, 2 things I’d suggest. 1 do your drift test cut on a sample of wood as thick as you plan to resaw. 2 keep the fence mostly behind the blade, as wood goes through the cut it may warp and force the remaining cut out of spec. 99% of a good cut is in the set up ( which is a wholly different video ) using a low tpi blade such as a 4 prevents clogging. Pushing the cut much slower than your saw can do produces a smother cut. Keep up the good work!

I just made some 1/16 inch veneer for a guitar case. I made a jig like yours, but the mag switches are not the same dimension as my plywood. How do you keep the jig from moving up which will cause the jig to come out of square? I used about 6 species of wood from fallen branches near my house. The case looks like a wooden patch work quilt. Makes for a VERY heavy case, lol. 31 and a half pounds, I put wheels on it.

I would use washer shims to make sure that the bottom of the magnet is flush with the bottom of the plywood

I have used very thin commercial veneer in some cases where magswtichs are a not quite as tight, sometimes takes 2 sheets with depending on what you need to make up

I see the black plastic table insert on your Rikon bandsaw is just a little too low, just like mine. And wood catches on the small step, every time, right? I made my own replacement. But I have never had a problem resawing with the stock fence.

that's a very good point, thanks for this, I have noticed from time to time wood catches, I will make a new insert, great idea !!!

4:40 When you were drilling the holes for your mag switches, why did the board you were drilling raise up and not lay flat? Now all I need is a few thousand bucks for a bandsaw that can handle that size wood.

hmm, good question, I didn't notice that either drilling or in the editing, I will have a look at that, I have made this type of cut many, many times, will want to check this out .. thanks BTW, I often see very good used bandsaws for much less than new prices
