Simple Man | Lynyrd Skynyrd (Cover)

This version of "Simple Man" was recorded live to 1" analog tape at Creampuff Studios in Nashville, TN. I think we did two takes, and chose the best one of the two lol.. Although posted in 2016, this video lit up during the pandemic- Up 550,000 views in April 2020 alone. I'm beyond grateful for the attention and support. "Simple Man" wasn't always part of my repertoire- After recording in Muscle Shoals, AL in 2016 (just before this cover was made); being there left me feeling far more connected to the music made there.. the music I'd always loved. I know my version of this iconic song stems from that experience.

My 1st born, my only son, died July 12th, 2020 - I sang this to him when he was born in 1979, we would rock together each morning and I would say these words to him.....he was a simple man...a true Texas cowboy who loved the land, his family, the cattle, his dog and the Lord...I miss him so much💔

Texas boys grow up to be Texas Men. I lost my dad to 4 different stage 4 cancers. We Texas men and boys are tough, but I wish I had known this song as i do only now. Sometimes we need to hear it's alright to simplify, so we may amplify. I have no doubt your boy knew your love, how rare that's become these days. I believe it was Allen Collins who wrote the guitar riffs for this song and it became a big ol hit for lynyrd skynyrd, then about 40 years later shinedown recorded a version of simple man and blew the world away.. Fun fact: shinedowns original guitarist "Jason todd " was engaged to ronnie van Zant's daughter melody, and they were all hanging out one evening and melody asked brent and jason to play simple man for her, at first brent didnt really want to do that but decided ok , and when they played the song ,melody was in awe and insisted that they had to record that song and would be what ultimately put shinedown on the map.. 😉

Thanks for this. Listening to you again long after I should be in bed. You sing this perfect. This song reminds me of my mom. I took care of her for 9yrs before she past from cancer after the doc told her she only had 2yrs to live. No one knows sacrifice like a single mother. Least I could do is sacrifice a social life during that time for all she gave to me including life. She introduced me to Lynard Skynyrd, The Eagles, Elvis and so many more long ago. Wow, I've got to be honest....being raised in a place Ronnie called his second home its commonplace to hear others sing his songs. The song "Simple Man" is no different as it's been tried many times, by many artist only to be something best forgotten. The song had a special meaning to Ronnie and until a person understands that meaning, it's just a song. I've only known of 3 who could sing this song and convey the feelings that were put into it when it was written. So the question is... does this young lady actually think she can sing this song? Can she make you feel its meaning in your soul? Ronnie Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Brent Smith of ShineDown...and you dam skippy boys and girls. This young lady doesnt think she can sing this song she knows it. She understands the words, the meanings, and she can touch your soul.
