If your like me, a gen x 54 yr old, then I want you to know that as a kid I never really paid much attention to this song. But now it hits me like a good sermon from a preacher who tells you what you need to hear and not want you want to hear. It moves me. It scrambles hope in with acceptance of past mistakes. It gives me peace. If you get a chance listen to "Between a Laugh and a Tear" by John Cougar Mellencamp off his Rain on the Scarecrow album. You won't be disappointed i promise you. Where and what year did you see them? We saw them in September, 1974, in Charlotte, NC . I got married in December, 1977, but the 2 most vivid memories were October 20th, 1977, when the plane went down. And August 17, 1977 when I heard the breakthrough on news when Elvis died.

Its easy to get caught up in life and not enjoy it im realizing that now. You don't have to have alot of money to enjoy the small things like waking up another day in this hell hole. Man, this song has so much meaning for me. I lost my baby brother in the 70s a few months away of him turning 3. I'm blessed to have 3 sons and 1 daughter and I'm sure I played this song alot to my boys growing up.❤ played a lot of Stevie Nicks and Pat benatar and other inspiring empowering videos for my daughter 😊

From the bayous of Louisiana. Did and lived as my French heritage guided me. Faith country and family were the ideals we lived by. Hunting trapping and farming worship of Jesus and God were paramount. Am at the end and i want to be with them that went before me. Call me crazy if you want but i have faith that my prayers will be answered.

Excellent video with an awesome song. I think of my older brother that passed away in 2020 and it brings me to tears every time I hear this song. We enjoyed anything outside. A fun and easy going guy.

My mom passed away from cancer years ago. I had an iPod she would always like to borrow. While she was home on hospice & while she still could, she managed to load this song on It was months before I even wanted to listen to music. When I finally did there was a folder labeled mom, this one song.. still cry every time I hear it as a 45 year old man. Gave her the grandchildren she always wanted a few years later. She obviously never got to meet them but she's with them. My daughter is named after her. She has her middle name for her first name & first for her middle.

I saw Lynrd Skynrd at the Altamonte Mall the 2 days before they died. I laughed and treasured 4 hours with Ronnie Vanzant with his arm around my neck telling everyone i was his buddy. Then the next night i saw them play at the Lakeland Civic Center. And before they played Freebird Ronnie anounced that this one goes out to his buddy and said my name to 30,000 people. Thenthey played in Mississippi then crashed all within 2 days after spending 4 hours with the entire band and Ronnie parading me with his arm around my neck "his buddy" Forever your buddy Ronnie Thank you for the eternal love and memory. I am Faith in God Faith ✝️ Hope 🙏 Love ❤️

Matt, we've been messaging since before you released The Shore. You have truly saved my life. I Love you for shining light on the shore so I could stop sinking and finally realize I have worth. My family needs me here, not stone-cold in the dirt. I'll never allow anyone to try to drown me again. Love you my brother ❤

This has always been my song to my 2 sons. I wanted it to be the Groom/Mother song at my oldest son’s wedding. But it is a little too long. I told my hub when my time comes … I want ‘this video’ song played at my funeral. It’s perfect! ❤️ ❤️
