I keep my tree trimmed up at the bottom. So it was easy to spot. What was surprising was, It was cold 60 deg and cloudy. The way they was hanging JUST GORGEOUS ! They looked like MINK FUR. I wish i could filmed it 😩 they was close to my apiary, but not my bees! They said, they just hang here! OLD JR will see us. 🏆😁 i so happy > I started the smoke method of combining queens and splits . My friends are using that method with great success! Just smoke the insides down good. Add them, smoke again good. Your good to go. The smoke make them not to smell any thing. Plus there confused. And are accepted ! 👍 It take about a week for the smoke smell to leave . EASY AS PIE 😁

It was not robbing, just a lot of activity due to the fact there were so many bees in the box. Our bees are very healthy this year. If you think the boards are epic, wait till you see the honey the bees produce this year. God's peace Julie. Mr. Ed

Hi Mr Ed 😊, hope you're keeping well.. Wow, you really do an amazing job with your bees!! I'd love to have bees, they're fascinating!! but unfortunately, I live in a housing estate, there's a back garden on all 3 sides of mine, and 2 have young children. I'd hate them to be stung and it my fault etc.. I recently watched another bee video, showing the queen laying. Wow the eggs are tiny!! Maybe Smaller than a grain of rice 😮 wishing you a happy Easter, enjoy the holidays. Best wishes as always ☘️🇮🇪

Where does the queen egg come from? Does one of the workers lay them?
@JeffHorchoff3 жыл бұрын
The queen egg is laid by the queen. Even though all female bees can lay eggs, they are not fertilized and therefore can ONLY produce a drone, male bee if they lay eggs. Because the queen pheromone is so strong, it suppresses the urge for the other bees to lay eggs, and the queen is the only bee in the hive that lays eggs. Thanks for watching. God's peace Mike. Mr. Ed

Thank you for this wonderful information! quick question I am new to bee keeping why would you not put a queen excluder between the new split when you added the super? Thank you
@JeffHorchoff3 жыл бұрын
Because I run 2 deep brood boxes and a separate honey super, if I would use a queen excluder, and I don't, I would add it after the second brood box went on. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed
@jhulin90183 жыл бұрын
Jeff, Great Video. I was however a little confused at the beginning. You stated you leave the hive inner cover on initially so as not to release the hive beetles and damage the propolis. So you therefore tilt the box on the side to count bees from the underside. But then the next step is to go through the top box and find a frame of the youngest brood to be placed in the bottom box which means you have to remove the inner cover. So why not pull off the inner cover at the beginning since a few minutes later you will be pulling it off anyway?
@JeffHorchoff3 жыл бұрын
By keeping the lid on initially, it keeps the bees in the top box while making the examination and not have them flying around. It's just something I do. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed
@JJDigitalartStudio3 жыл бұрын
For those like me who did not know what propolize meant, it is a variant of the word propolis which are wax attachments. In this case they will build wax comb on the bottom of the cover.
@justwinks15533 жыл бұрын
Propolis is not wax. It is much more resinous.
@JJDigitalartStudio3 жыл бұрын
@@justwinks1553 Yes. I didn't want to get too technical. It is resinous waxy substance the bees use to attach their brood to a surface.
@JeffHorchoff3 жыл бұрын
They put that stuff EVERYWHERE! God's peace JJ. Mr. Ed
@ME_MeAndMyBees Жыл бұрын
Propolis comes from Resins that Bees find on eg Native Trees like Pine, Larch, Conifer etc. Basically any Tree that secrets Sap through its Bark surface. (These are not cut or felled sap sources.) Here in Scotland 🏴 Old Scots Pine have gooey Resin dripping down the Trunks nooks and crannies. (Deep channels in the bark, on very warm days !) Propolis when Cold is Hard and Shine and makes a mighty 'Crack' Sound when you open up Hive Woodware : The joins between Boxes, the Glued on Floor, that Inner Cover after a long Winter of no Beeks having gone in (!) Propolis also has Antibacterial and Antimicrobial Properties. In EU especially they use it diluted in medicinal alcohol to make Tintures. For Allery use, Sore Throats, General Wellbeing. Bees collect the Resin and process it with their own Enzymes to cover Surfaces that are : Well used or Trodden by activity (Entrances.) In Travel Pathways, to gum up Gaps : Seal the Hive up re another Box, Inner Cover to be secured down again. When Bees Swarm and find a Home in a Tree Cavity or place that isn't 100% Bee tight. : Weather, Ants, Wasps, Damp, Cold etc etc.👍They Propolise it ! Hope this helps. 😎 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2023 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

Are emergency queen cells queens as good as other types of queen cells?
@JeffHorchoff3 жыл бұрын
In one sense they are, after all, there is a queen in the hive. However, because a swarm and superseding cell are built for a queen and the queen lays the egg in the cell, the queen that emerges will be fully developed. Emergency cell queens may have issues and will be superseded later. Thanks for watching. God's peace John. Mr. Ed
