Think it’s the the constancy of Jim Kerr’s deep resonating vocals.. and the soaring moments of guitar and electronic sounds .. gives a feeling of hope. Certainly uplifted me in the winter sunshine today 😀

Mortis xx So again, for all the simple minds here, my point was: this is everything but rock. This is pop, plain popmusic. If you want to see that as blasphemy, fine with me, who's trolling in that case, who's the prick con balls.... Never said I didn't like the track in itself, as long as I don't have to look at the singer playing Jezus Christ in front of dedicated followers. Fortunately, some wisdom and more acceptable stage presence came with the years. All hope is not idle.

This song brings me back to the days when my daughter was about 10 , 11 years old and we would hear this song while riding in the car, ( my daughter will be 40 in September) I was one of the few who had a child while in my early 20's back in 1980, but it was great to listen to these songs and watch my daughter grow-up

I was 20 in 1981. I grew up listening to pop and by 14 in 1975 I was into funk. I still love funk and these days I really enjoy and appreciate late 60s & early 70s rock. Having said that music from 1979 to 84 was very special. I don’t know if I’m just being nostalgic, I was a young man going out 5 nights a week, dressing up like a pirate 🏴☠️ and dancing the night away with wonderful people. Such great times. I’ve lost touch with nearly all the people I knew back then, it wasn’t easy to stay in touch those days, people moved or change telephone number and you had no idea where they gone. It may of been just over 40 years ago but that’s how it was at the time.

You described thos years perfectly feel the same way. Bowie and Idol brought the synth to the world in the 70s and took off from there. Cant get enough of this .

This sounds so ahead of its time. It sounds as if it could be released in the 2000s as a trance hit, except it's from 1982. So, so great.

U.S.U.R.A.used this track in 1993 for their rave banger Open Your Mind. which is categorized as techno house

Funny you say that. It was remixed by usura which was also an amazing hit.

Utah Saints also released an excellent stadium house cover before that, in 1992. No guitars but still quite epic and the vocals are in that similar style which reminds me of A. Eldritch of Sisters of Mercy. Simple Minds musically still sound amazing live, but Jim's vocals for this song no longer have that seductive dark gloom that to me is essential to the song.

I'm 55 too and it reminds me of those wonderful times, although I have to say I'm also coping well with the maturity of this age. I rediscovered this song after so many years. These days I noticed that in the early 80s I had a crush on a little girl. But even these days I have a crush on another girl.... 😄

First heard this melody from the U.S.U.R.A and Utah Saints samples, never knew until the late 90's it was a Simple Minds song they sampled from. If this came out today the so called talent that exists today in the music world would be history. Outsanding.

All ' epoca ero universitario fuorisede .
