That amazing slow build intro & then Simple Minds' trademark wall of sound & Jim's power vocals. Charlie Burchill may well be the world's most underrated rock guitarist. Virtuoso talent. They performed an incredible live version of this song at Wembley Arena, Aug 1991 during Real Life Tour New album, Direction of the Heart, in at No 4 in UK Album Charts yesterday, Oct 28th, 2022. Epic.

That's great@@philmatthews2155 By the way, as part of Sky Arts Channel's 'Greatest Albums Live' Series, they filmed Simple Minds in July 2023 Live from Paisley Abbey performing all the songs in sequence from what, as you'll know, was their breakthrough 5th album, 1982's New Gold Dream. Sky Arts have broadcast the concert a couple of times, & also someone has uploaded a few of the Paisley Abbey tracks HD video & audio, and the rest audio only, here on KZbin in case haven't seen/heard it & want to seek it out. Also there's a vinyl & CD album out of the Paisley Abbey NGD concert - apologies if you know all this already ! Anyway, the Paisley Abbey set brought back memories of my first time seeing the Minds in Dec '82 at Caird Hall, Dundee, on their first major UK & European [New Gold Dream] tour (supported by China Crisis). Have a great day. Joe

Wow, I'm just totally blown away by the power and the sound of the song. There's just something so magnificent about it. Especially at the beginning, this change from the intro to the verse (0:55), I can't describe what it is but it's hell good. And another genius detail, at 3:40, where the lyrics talk about men leaving earth, they put in this synthesiser part that to me really sounds like from old sci-fi movies, ending on a major chord, but right after going back to the minor chords from before, to say "quit dreaming this is real life". Damn genius.
