I met Derek Forbes tonight in the pub round the corner tonight. Told him I saw him play with XSM at Christmas. Goals in life, "see the Grand Canyon, Great Wall of China, and Derek Forbes playing live." He went, "Aw, thanks, that's nice." Good guy.

This was the first gig I ever went to. Can still remember being blown away by the sound of Derek Forbes' bass, was stood right in front of him. Yer still a class act, big man!

AWWWW! I had this bootleg on a beautiful little cassette, inlay designed by my mate and used to play it before school, after school, in friends cars, when i first drove a car, in Paris hotels, through the scottish highlands, on coach trips to football matches. The gig went with me everywhere. Seriously, we should all wear jack boots, big baggy trows and panda eye makeup. It should be compulsory for all human beings.

If I was only allowed to do one thing for the rest of my life it would be listening to Simple Minds early albums - Simply genius!

This is the best version of This Fear of Gods I've heard, complete with the sounds of visiting alien spacecraft. I dare say this was one of the early influences of 'Trance' music

@dangus164 you r psot on with this comment !! they could never have stayed the course if they had never changed from there early days its called getting bigger and evolving !! simple minds have givne me great memories from 1979 to 2009 period !!! i am not stuck in gear in 1981 thats for sure !!!

Agreed

@dangus164 I haven't got a problem with SM becoming a multimillionaire stadium band post NGD album because Jim figured he would channel it all into Amnesty Int awareness even though the artistic integrity went to shit. These early albums are cornerstone sof our civilization. Only a god could write such lyrics. End

Yep, I’d agree with that. Post NGD they gained some new fans and lost some older ones. For me, Don’t You Forget About Me was the beginning of the end.

@CONSIDERABLYMORE1 "Creative meltdown". My feelings in a nutshell, thanks. Would give my right ball to find out what really happened in their heads post-NGD...

Ask Jim Kerr..
@officialblueboy15095 жыл бұрын
Thomas Kamphuis I wonder if Jim regrets the shift, artistically? Obviously it made sense commercially but oh boy, songs like Biko droning on for 20 minutes or so? Dreadful.

@CONSIDERABLYMORE1 i think whatever James Dean (what a schmuck with a name like that) )Bradfield says in an interview is irrelevant here. : metally miserable shouty dull crap is what i think when i think of The Manics but golden, angelic divinely inspired pure excellence is what i think of when i contemplate Simple Minds
