There's something about a dog and the Loyalty that a dog gives you that no matter how old you get you'll always remember that dog and how much you loved it but you know that it's on to its next life and that someday you'll be reunited and that's comforting sorry for your loss I know nothing can take care of that and change that but spending time at the ocean will probably help you immensely

I am sorry about your dog. I know how it feels, I guess a lot of people do. I still remember our Tippy that was hit by a car when I was 10; it felt like the universe had ruptured and turned inside out. And now I'm 66; so we remember our best friends for always. But time does heal and the rawness will fade. Blessings and comfort to you.

I don't live full time...but since retiring in 2016 on a very low income, I travel 4 months a year staying in my Pontiac Vibe. I travel with my small dog and can fit everything we need. Every trip I have found that I pack things that never get used. I am finally getting things pared down to just what I need. It's a process for sure. Such a great cheap way to travel. It has enabled me to have the retirement I had dreamed of even on a poverty line budget!

I love it. I was living in a homeless shelter with my boyfriend and our 2 girls for 5 months last year and it was rock bottom for me. I felt like a failure as a parent since it was our poor choices that led us there. Anyway, happy to report that we are doing great now. I would love to live in a van or maybe something a little bigger once the kids are out on their own. I want the freedom and peace of mind knowing that I have somewhere that no one can kick me out of. I want stability. That's my reason🤗

Back in the 70s we used to vacation in the Green Mountains. The electric grid only went about a third up the mountain, and houses / cabins / camps were few and far between. Near the top, on a clear night, with a new moon, it was so dark we could barely see our hands in front of our faces. We would stand out in the (gravel) road and stare up at the sky. With no air pollution, and no light pollution, the stars were in total 3D. Some looked so far away, and some looked so close you couldn't help but reach out your finger to see if you could touch one. We could see the entire Milky Way stretched across the sky. It was just incredible. I want to see the night sky like that again before I die. For me, that can only happen with van life. Hope to be on the road soon.

In mine, which I did and recommend, was attach a bunny cargo net from the rear ceiling handles back to the 2 rear hooks and underneath that I attached a fine mesh square attached with bunny hooks, now a a two level space for all the things I used to loose or forget and things I want to see easily and grab quickly plus when I throw my deflated luck lights up there I have plenty of extra light to shine through when I'm not using my string lights. Plus my inverter has enough power to boil water with my electric pitcher so much faster and easier than breaking out the camp stove. Eventually I want to install a solar panel on top of a cargo box on the top which could also be angled towards to sun for max power and house a spare battery and a better inverter so the sound is nil. Keep up your most excellent life of freedom and exploration of experiencein this world!...like I say, I love girls,kids, ,animals and houses,, but I love my freedom more, no wife, kids, pets or bills, plus since I cut all that out I've never ate better had more money or freedom and happiness in my, life jah bless!!

Great video, keeping it simple and living free. I still use my T&C for work and hauling people, so I haven’t remove the front seats. When camping, if I’m solo, for a bed I use a REI Kingdom Cot and a Therm-a-rest Mondo, with is easy to remove and stove. I also have set up with twin memory foam mattresses on to a light weigh plywood frame I designed(when I have company), which is also easy to assemble and later break down and store. I’ve compartmentalized my stove, kitchen items, food, camping kit into the ubiquitous yellow&black bins from HD to keep things organized. I use a Yeti also(but I’m thinking about a plug in fridge), all of which fits under my sleeping arrangements. My bike is a folding e-bike from Rad, which I can’t say enough good thing about, that I charge while driving from the built in 120v plug in the minivan. Yeck, I think you just inspired me to shoot my own video.

Everest Stove is the BOMB...that is my stove too...I raised my floor a 2 x 4 width off the floor at the front by the door about half the van to level it and got a BUNCH of storage for flat stuff and tent supplies, tarps, books, shoes under it. I lost about 3.5 inches of head room but it allowed me to take all that 'stuff' that seemed to rattle around in the van and gave it a place. I decided to, for the moment leave the passenger seats in as I live now part time in a real 'home" (omigod after 3.5 years on the road) and will soon try to figure out a way to get one seat up so I can carry a grand child in it...:) But took the back ones out which gave me an amazing amount of space. serena koleno I don’t have a channel Serena. I would make sure the suspension has new rear shocks and new front struts. Rear airbags are pretty reasonably priced. I would add those because a lot of weight starts sagging the rear suspension. If you have the money. I would get a rooftop cargo carrier. The Yakima/ Tule brands are expensive. But if you shop around,you can find less expensive alternatives. The rooftop carrier can store a lot of stuff you don’t need everyday. And will make the inside more manageable for sleeping and chilling in the evenings.

New subscriber! Love your simplicity! I'm converting a 2017 RAV4 into a home. Taking care of a few loose ends and I'm off! Why? Same reason as most others. I can't afford my home after my husband died. Upkeep is killing my finances, along with taxes, insurance, etc. All the stuff we accumulated after 23 years of marriage... wow. I'm also stoked about doing this just because a lot of my family says it's impossible. Challenge accepted! Plus, this was always a dream for my husband and I. We wanted to get rid of it all and live in an RV, but, alas, things just didn't work out. The dream didn't die just because he did. I've already done some camping excursions in the RAV before it is even completed (still want to remove seats, build a bed platform, etc) and I can tell you straight up that I can easily live in this! I was a wildland firefighter for years so I know just how little you really need to thrive. Looking forward to more vids! Also, maybe it's not possible, but have you thought of turning the passenger seat around so you have a comfy seat ?

My advice to young people is this: if you prefer ' things ' over adventure, go for it. Knock yourselves out. Things do not bring happiness but seeing/experiencing adventures do. Go for adventure. You'll be surprised at how much you will really learn. 30 years ago i/we just had to own lead crystal, silver, china, New vehicles, new carpet and tile, jewelry etc. This list went on and on. Now I'm giving these things to family and friends/acquaintances. Keeping them shiny is too time consuming. Traveling and having fun is a better way. We desire to be full time travelers.

one concern I'd have: You have several valuable items with you, like the laptop. When you leave the van for an extended outing away from the van--a backpack, for example--how comfortable are you leaving those valuables the trailhead? A buddy of mine spends significant time traveling in his pickup truck and has mentioned his reluctance to leave the truck at a trailhead in order to do a backpack.
@RyanKodakBrown3 жыл бұрын
Fairly comfortable I guess. It’s a concern and one I try not to dwell on. I hide things as best I can and, if I’m gone for longer durations, I’ll leave my valuables at friends houses or trail angels, etc. Having the tracking on apple products certainly helps though too.

ANOTHER Doge Grand Caravan! :D My vehicular knowledge is pretty narrow in scope, so I was all for buying one of those popular full van-size rigs for my van build... until my dad (mechanic of 30+ years) suggested I go with the Dodge GC! They're the main vehicle he has for the company he owns, and he had nothing but good things to say about their storage space, mileage, maintenance, etc. And now as I research it, I see that the GC seems to be one of THE most popular minivans for a smaller-scale vanlife! :D So encouraging! Also your smile is lovely, genuine, and contagious Kodak, keep smiling! :D xoxoxo
@RyanKodakBrown4 жыл бұрын
Hahaha, thanks for the kind words! Yeah, GC's are great for smaller scale vanlife. With all the room in the floor once you pull the seats out.... They are crazy spacious and can be made super cozy so long as you don't have too much stuff. Still, at some point I'll "upgrade" to a high roof Promaster. Good luck with whatever you decide!
@milo_thatch_incarnate4 жыл бұрын
@@RyanKodakBrown yep Promasters are great, they're actually the other of the two vehicles my dad employs, and I've driven both a lot (I worked for him for a while). I'm sticking with the GC at least for now for the great mpg -- that way I can save more!

A small cargo trailer maybe a option You can sleep in there , cook out of the wind and dirt. It would have to be one of the smaller one available. Or better sell that crv and buy a mini van

It's definitely possible though will be cramped. My buddy built a platform in the back of his Rav4. Him and his girlfriend camp in it part time and it works well for them. Remove the back seat and build a platform with storage underneath, pullout kitchen and all that if you want to get fancy. 2-4" memory foam mattress. Rooftop box for extra storage Otherwise, you'd be surprised how little you really need. You can always start with the tent route too and figure the rest out as you go. Thanks so much! I wish y'all the best of luck with it!
@RyanKodakBrown4 жыл бұрын
Cargo trailers are an option and provide plenty of options for building 'em out. They are better if you plan to stay in places for longer durations, kinda home-base it. They are a pain if your always on the go as pulling 'em, parking and all that can be a real pain. I pulled trailers for years for work. Did consider it myself though! But the minivan gives me enough room until I can buy a Promaster.
@SMafam53 жыл бұрын
We pulled a 6x10 cargomate (1200 lbs) with a Nissan x-trail (similar to CRV) - you can add a break controller and that increases your tow capacity. There are plenty of amazing CTCs that are 5x8 and even lighter. Check out Fb groups.

"You just need a few bins and a flat place to lay your head at night..." 100%!!! TRUTH!!! Perfectly said!!! Yes, more like car camping!!! I think all these minivan builds are crazy. My plan is to keep at least one of the middle seats in and remove the other, and remove the rear seats, but other than that and some window blockouts and curtains for privacy, i'm not modifying the van. Well, ONE mod, kinda, I'll loop in an auxilliary battery so that I never drain the main battery. But SIMPLE is better. It costs less, is less wasteful, and better all around. For stealth boondocking it's best because when parked and away from the van it won't look like you have a lot of stuff in it for people to want to break in, nor will it arouse suspicion of neighbors/police, etc. Keep it simple - I love it! great video, good job!!!

The bike on top greatly reduces the mpg of the van. Consider a hitch mount swing away. It can hold two bikes and be configured to double as a kitchen counter.

It hasn't seemed to impact it much, surprisingly. I do keep the bike inside the van most of the time though. I'm real curious how you configure the hitchmount to serve as a kitchen counter! Sounds awesome.

Glad to see you put out another video, why don’t you get a small trailer to pull behind your van to put your gear in? It would free up so much space in your van , and a small trailer is easy to maneuver around and won’t make your van use that much more fuel
@RyanKodakBrown4 жыл бұрын

Thank you for responding to my "remove the front passenger seat" suggestion! You know, a "true" friend would not mind riding on a small stool or crate in place of the front passenger seat. As a TRUE friend, I'd value your need for space more than my wanting luxurious comfort. Just sayin'! I still think you should remove the front passenger seat and offer the occasional guest a stool or crate to sit on, but it's your van. Finding space will always be a challenge when it shouldn't be. It's how the space you have is utilized. Good Luck!
