Simple Off Grid Cabin Build: Facia, Window Trim, Transplanting Trees

I got the facia board installed on the front of the new cabin addition, trimmed out majority of the windows, and started transplanting trees. Thanks for watching! #diy #homestead #outdoors

Thinning out those trees is like thinning out onions. You pull out some so others grow big and strong. Looks like many need to go, so others live. Congratulations to you and Ciara! You are lucky that you live in a state where a doctor will see a pregnant woman in the first trimester. If there is a pregnancy complication you can go to a hospital and they will help without fear that the doctor will be charged and put in jail for doing their job. I live in Louisiana and women here (and most of the South) are not so lucky. They are turned away at hospitals because the laws are vague and doctors are afraid to help. May your baby be healthy and may Ciara have an uneventful pregnancy.

Your videos and others have inspired me to buy land in Tennessee and go off grid. For a while I was wondering how to get away from the “norm” such as extremely high home prices, traffic and nonstop bills. We are currently in Dallas and leaving for Tennessee on 4 July. Going to live in a wall tent while building our house. We spent a week there in May to clear trees and didn’t want to leave. I can’t wait to get back. Thanks Kyle

You should definitely build a hand rail on the stair case and around the deck makes it easier to climb the stairs carrying a baby and all the bags. Make the deck railing cap wide enough for leaning on and for beers and a dinner plate. Maybe build a raised flower bed out of nicely peeled a and grow some flowers and herbs.? Also another set of stairs going iff the deck. I'd like to get you a battery powered nail gun. I admire your effort pounding in the nails with your corless hammer..lol Congrats on putting it in the belly..

Screws are great. Especially at my age, fingers take a long time to heal. I started building on our farm twenty-two years ago. I used screws. Now as old smaller projects come down I have a supply of screws. Didn't think twenty-two years ahead in 2002. AND!!!! screws do hold better if you can afford the added cost. Great work. Id make some kind like paving stone pad under front window area so you can grill near porch without being under the porch roof grilling and itd give you more usable function capacity than just the porch, and you could make steps off side porch going down to the patio, maybe even fence it in for the baby to have a area inclosed

Wonderful job, Kyle, making room for your growing family! I like the mud room/laundry room idea, if you can manage it. Great job saving those young trees! Conifers are great for sheltering birds in the winter. I agree with the advice you got about NOT fertilizing when you transplant. If you do it at all, some manure next spring after the tree is established may be good - but your veggies will probably need it more. I do suggest moving the lovely pine on the corner at least 6-8’ away - it’s awfully close to the house. We lost a couple of wonderful trees because we failed to move them when we could.
