Cierra and I built some fencing on our off grid homestead to house our chickens and our new goats. We also have started hatching baby chicks the natural way. No incubator, just good ole Mother Nature. Thanks for watching. #diy #homestead #offgrid

My uncle use to raise chickens. One-year things were really tight financially, so he started mixing saw dust with the chicken feed to strech it out and get him through the winter. Well in the springtime when those chickens' eggs hatched, three of the baby chicks had wooden legs and one of them was a woodpecker.

the fencing for the chickens will hold up better than chicken wire but your small chicks will fit through it, you may want to line the bottom 2 ft with either hardware cloth wire of a small chicken wire. We have full sized dairy goats and keep them in the temporary pastures using three strands of electric fence. We use wire because the electric ribbon didn't shock them enough to keep them away, We also use solar chargers. This also keeps our dairy cow and calf in the grazing area. Best of luck in your new animal venture and congrats on the chicks.

I used to raise goats and know a bit about habits. They will more than likely want to put there front hooves up on the wire fence which will damage the fence sooner or later. We used to use a solar fencer to run electric fence which once they learn the fence is boss they respect it just fine. Enjoy the goats they can be a lot of fun or a big headache, mine used to like to go for walks in the woods. They had fenced pasture but a couple times a week I'd let them out and after a round of hijinks they would pretty decently stay together-ish and browse like deer do. Once I set routine of walks they knew the general route I'd take and kinda go the route. They knew the gig and never gave me much problem getting back in their barn if I gave them an hour or so. A little grain after everyone is back in is also a great motivator. They are smart and catch on quick.

Congratulations on the new baby chicks and the goats!! Another benefit of getting some female goats Is getting the milk. Although I personally know next to nothing about goats I was watching videos of a homestead in Idaho where they built pens that are movable to different sections so that they were able to have the goats basically mow the undergrowth in different sections reducing the amount that they had to mow and clearing out the underbrush. And when they finished 1 section they were able to bring up the pen and move it over to a new section for them to work on the next area Just something to think about. Especially since you're so good at figuring out how to build things that would be an interesting project to do. Wonderful and exciting times ahead for you And your family! Thank you so much for sharing all this greatness with us!! God bless you all!! 💗🙏🤗

One of my goats used to sit on the shed roof, surveying her kingdom like the queen of goats. I learned they liked to be on the highest point around. So don’t be too surprised if you come out & find them somewhere outrageous! She would also use her horn to hook around the screen door handle and let herself inside. Leaving me a thoughtful trail of goat jellybeans 🤦🏼‍♀️
