The Minecraft Survival Guide Season 2 continues!
In this tutorial, we take a short & simple look at how to farm Powder Snow and Ice. Powder Snow can build up in cauldrons in snowy biomes, provided they have open sky above them, while ice can freeze from any water source in the right conditions. Ice can be harvested with Silk Touch, then crafted into Packed Ice and Blue Ice from there.
We'll need some Powder Snow to tackle a 1.19 Froglight farm next week, so this is just laying the foundation for more Wild Update farms!

Season 2 of the Minecraft Survival Guide will teach you how to master Survival Mode in Minecraft 1.18 and beyond!

Pixlriffs' advice to build simple ice farm trays with wood is well worth heeding. I would further recommend using wood for the floor of the trays as well as the walls. In practice I have found that a high-efficiency silk touch pickaxe quickly cuts through stone floors and walls, forcing me to constantly replace them. Wood blocks are not so easily broken with a pickaxe.

I've been quietly watching all three Survival Guide series (and Empires!) pretty much since you first started posting them. I think I've gotten back into Minecraft four separate times (more or less with every other update) because you do an excellent job showcasing new content and what it has to offer. Much appreciation for all the effort you've put in for your audience over the years and it's been a delightful journey with you so far.

I wish you could also demonstrate snow farming in non-cold biomes, it just needs to be built on a certain y-level above the ground for these biomes to snow.

Y 160 usually works. Mine is in 1.5 generated chunks. So they form pretty fast. Snow collection is very slow even with 200 cauldrons. But ice is less than 20 minutes.

I put the cauldrons over the slabs 1 gap difference. So it's very compact and it collects snow while ice is forming. The same space. Also the side rim around the farm is cauldrons so it's a very neat design.

@@JoelRipke This does work on Java edition, any version above 1.17 will do. You can turn a regular skeleton spawner into a stray farm just by putting a powder snow block above their landing block. Keep a one block gap of air in between so their heads are in the powder snow block. They'll turn into strays after a second or two. You can even transport the skeletons through a water stream where their heads are constantly in powder snow before dropping them in a killing chamber.

I have found your Minecraft Survival Guide (1 and 2) invaluable to learning this game and being able to enjoy it. I also like that they are small, logically sequenced bites of information rather than the long-term, large projects I watch on Hermitcraft or technical content providers. The Hermitcraft Recap is fun as well--I occasionally see something from Hermits I don't normally follow so your Recap has led me to watching a dozen of them instead of just Tango and Impulse which brought me to that series. So, thank you to for both your efforts and those of your talented Recap team.

It's also a little magma cubes farm. Which is pure nice profit. I mean for me was easier since I discovered those. If you haven't and can r wait you can find a delta and make that design. Still it produce a lot of lights. More than you ever need.

What happened to the rtx survival?
@Pixlriffs
@Pixlriffs Жыл бұрын
It was a sponsored series, so it was always intended to be short. I mostly just wanted to play around and see what the RTX lighting was capable of, but I didn’t see the need to keep that series running alongside all the other stuff I’m doing.
@mintycheddar3854
@mintycheddar3854 Жыл бұрын
@@Pixlriffs Earlier this year I was inspired by Pixlriffs' RTX series to give it a try myself, and spent a week experimenting with it in a survival world. I tried several different RTX resource packs and found very few that were complete or nearly so. I enjoyed the optional bump mapping effects and many of the lighting effects but there were also some effects that I did not like. Ore blocks were less impressive than I had hoped, metallic blocks were so reflective they almost looked invisible, and simulated refractive effects in water were not quite right. Ultimately I gave up on it because it consistently gave me headaches. I am prone to migraines and RTX effects turned out to be a trigger for that. So, be forewarned, if your rig can support RTX and you give it a try, you will find much to enjoy, but there are downsides to it. Overall, my impression is that RTX and RTX resource packs need more work to be fully enjoyable in survival worlds.

Hey Pix! Story plot suggestion for Empires 2: Gemity Tay burried the gem in which Xornoth was trapped. But he somehow got out of it and found himself in an underground civilisation where he was being treated. The people there were curing him as they thought he was some sacred being and he would protect them. But they didn't know what hit them. They made him stronger with spells and potions but then Xornoth betrayed them and killed them all. He didn't even let their souls rest in peace. He trapped all of them inside him and that's how Xornoth was reborn as The Warden. He had one weakness though...he was blind. Then he started to currupt the area. He set various traps there so he would know when anybody visits. He's still there.... Waiting for the emperors....

Is there any way you could automate this farm? It'll be way more efficient that way
@Pixlriffs
@Pixlriffs Жыл бұрын
Dispensers can’t collect stuff from cauldrons, so the only way to automate it is to have a player continuously right-clicking with buckets, and either have the player being pushed around by water streams or riding a minecart, or using a piston feed tape to move the cauldrons around. Possible, just not wholly necessary for how much powder snow I want, and the farm would only work while it was raining/snowing

Hi Pixlriffs, can you do a video on the new 1.19.1 java ban system? The new ban system allows Mojang to completely ban players from playing in any online multiplayer server if they violate Mojang (really Microsoft's) rules. This is absolutely ridiculous. Players should be able to do whatever they want no matter how offensive in the game, and it shouldn't be up to Microsoft to determine what is allowed. It should be up to individual server owners. Since you have a big voice I think you're views will have more resonance with the Mojang dev team.
